Hi - I just came across your post. I take jardiance and feel terrific. So good that I lose track of my numbers and barely pay attention to the condition. I do go to a terrific cardiologist at Johns Hopkins (a COE) so they are watching everything and if things change then treatment will have to change. Fingers-crossed that I can stay with the current treatment. Best of luck to you.

Hi awana and joycehocm,

I am an 82 year old female diagnosed with Apical HCM at age 78. At that time I had minimal wall thickness and a small pouch (sometimes called an aneurysm) on the apex of my left ventricle but no other symptoms. Since that time a lot has changed. Wall thickness is now considerably thicker and persistent, symptomtic Afib reared its ugly head. I also have a great degree of diastolic dysfunction.

Rate control was tried for Afib and several drugs did not change the rate. Then rhythm medication was tried and I take Dofetilde (Tikosyn) along with Eliquis for clot protection. It worked great for 10 months and then I started having breakthrough episodes every three months or so. They would be self converting after about 36 hours. My Mayo cardiologist said if they became more frequent, we would have to consider the next steps and talked of adding Jardiance. To shorten the story, the episodes did come more frequently and I started taking Jardiance in Feb. of 2025. I did have a few breakthrough episodes before the Jardiance took full effect but haven't had one since July of 2025 so am hopeful this will continue.

I have had no side effects from the Jardiance and I actually feel better overall and my pressure filling numbers were down on my echo. While I have always been able to exercise and walk between 2 1/2 to 3 miles every day when weather permits, I did notice it easier to walk up hills.

Good luck with your treatments! Jardiance seems to be a great drug for hearts.

Hi all of you on jardiance - I started taking it a year and a half ago. The first time I picked it up - yes, it was expensive - about $250.00 (after medicare and an excellent supplemental plan). But the pharmacist tipped me off that the Jardiance website had a coupon or form? (I can't remember) that I could fill out and give to her. I found it and did that and ever since my costs have been something like $25.00 per month. Good luck finding it and getting your pharmacy to use it. There was some text on the form about the company not reducing the cost if your supplemental didn't cover it (and ours didn't) but that didn't seem to stop all of this from working. I don't ask too many questions when things go my way 🙂 I'm sorry that I can't be more exact, I've never been good with details. Good Luck and hopefully others will be able to reduce costs after reading this.
