Taking care of my husband with cirrhosis of the liver

Posted by terry4939 @terry4939, Sep 27 7:13pm

My husband was told he has 2 months to a year to live due chirhosis of the liver. We have hospice coming to our home which has lifted a ton of bricks from my shoulder. He continues to drink liquor and knows he is going to die anyway. I am torn to pieces but I cant blame him because I would probably do the same thing
I have accepted his decision and hope that he does not die painfully. I am very scared

First of all I'm so sorry that you both are going through all this, very scary and sad. I suppose I would be like you and just hope his passing in painless. You are doing everything right for both of you. Please keep us posted when you can. Again I'm so very sorry.

This must be very difficult on your family. I’m so sorry. Your acceptance of the situation is amazing. I’m glad you have the support of hospice. We had them for my dad, who passed this past July. Sending you warm wishes for comfort.

So sorry.
Several of my friends have been in this with their love ones. They advised me that Hospice has counselors to help with the care giver. Can your reach out to Hospice for yourself to get their guidance on how you are feeling.

I have lost so many love ones but we are all diferent in how we handle it and the need for help like I did.

I know how horrifying this is. Have you thought about a second opinion, if your husband were to stop drinking? Some places will list you, if you are sober for 6 months. Tampa General is one of them. I don't know which state you are in, but maybe this is an option. Where there is life, there is hope.

Thank you so much. He is drinking still but promices he will stop. I think he has given up and he is going to die from this desiese regardless. Its been very hard to see him progress and his mind has changed

@terry4939 I'm sure it must be very hard for you. Addiction is awful. Will be thinking of you both. Hopefully you have good support from family and close friends 🧡
