Swollen urethra!!

Posted by carnet @carnet, Mar 30, 2023

Hi I’m 70 very active last week went to urgent care thinking I had a yeast infection or UTI my symptoms are I very on fire vagina with some pressure to urinate with no burning. She test urine said ok then she asked if I was swimming a lot or if I exercise no to swimming yes to exercise. So she did a test for bacterial vaginitis said that’s what it was put me cipro did stop the awful and was keeping me awake.Went to GP told was going on he said sounds like UTI it sent urine sample out for testing not heard back yet but I told him I took a mirror and looked in lady town and saw that my urethra was swollen I asked I UTI could cause that .So he puts me on cipro and shortly my vagina was more on fire and I had a pressure feeling. He also gave me phenazopyrine to take I have to take some Tylenol a night to really calm things down it keeps me awake. He told me if the urethra was still a problem I will go to urologist.Would swollen urethra cause all all that
I am feeling.Or should I go to gynecologist to have it all checked out
This is really making me crazy.
Thanks to all who answer.

Ment to say cipro didn’t help

I am a very active 69-year-old woman who cycles up to 200 miles a week. I had rectocele repair surgery done six weeks ago by a urogynecologist and since then have developed what I guess is an ongoing UTI not helped by three different antibiotics. I tested positive for gharderella vaginalis, which I’m told is BV but I don’t have all of those symptoms just the urgency and the burning. I’m about to start my fourth week with this issue. I have pee urgency, burning and aching and by mid afternoon, I’m lying on the couch with a heating pad. Needless to say, it’s really hard to get to sleep at night having to get up to make trips to the bathroom every five minutes the uro gynecologist has essentially washed her hands of me. Beyond having me stay off antibiotics this next week and come in and give another sample. I’m really worried that I now may have a chronic issue with UTIs or there is even an issue with the surgery. I have an appointment with the urology PA next week. Nothing seems to be swollen. I do feel one stitch sticking out, but can’t imagine that would cause these problems.

Hi sorry you are going though all that i'm afraid i will be be on cycle of different meds also.I got urine test results negative.I also get pee urgency with no burning also feel a little aching which seems to get worse afternoon and and night it will start up with feeling like my vagina burning the most annoying feeling have to use ice pack or heat pad when i go to bed!!Do you take a probiotic i have been taking for years. So i will be going to a gynecologist i will try and find a uro one.Unfortunately i think most doctors feel its in our heads.I was very happy before this doing my workouts walking and do yard work don't know if i did too much which might of caused a swollen urethra.Could the stitch be hitting something?

Are you by a chance taking AI meds--especially anastrozole? Your symptoms sounds quite like mine and they went away when I quit anastrozole.

@carnet I am writing to say that I hope you get some relief from your symptoms. You wrote "Unfortunately i think most doctors feel its in our heads". That really stood out to me since like you I have felt dismissed by some physicians and other medical providers who I felt did not take the time to really listen to me and help me to figure out the puzzle I was presenting to them. Your symptoms are not "in your head". They are real and the symptoms are affecting your life. I hope you find a medical provider who will listen and problem-solve with you.

Will you start on this next week and let me know what you find out?

Hi I went to gynecologist a female she was excellent and gave me a very good exam she said felt it is Pudendal nerve neuropathy in pelvis like pulled muscle have soreness under butt we had been doing a lot of yard work and did feel a strain and after that a started feeling all that burning in my vagina she has suggested pelvic floor therapy and to take gabapentin at night. She said i don't have any prolapses and every thing was in good shape in vagina. She said to have sex and use coconut oil as a lube said it will help she was very open about everything. Also my GP had also asked for a referral for a pelvic CT scan with or without contrast which was approved i went to gyno first wanted to find out from her first what could be wrong gyno said i could wait on that but i don't know if i should get it done to me on the safe side i've never had one done i'm not a person who runs to doctors or take pills.
