Superior vena cava (SVC) and Liver Disease

Posted by bjmoonlight4 @bjmoonlight4, 11 hours ago

I am a 46 year old female who went to the hospital with right shoulder pain and pain in the upper right quadrant of my body. After a few tests it was discovered that I have Superior Vena Cava Syndrome and had a rare narrowing. My body made its own veins from there to provide the oxygen my body needed; however, the major concern is why did I go through this. The most common cause is cancer but after extensive testing they said they found no cancer. I also have an enlarge hepatic vein in my liver and signs of fatty liver. I do not drink nor have I ever. I may have had a drink or two at a social occasion but its not my thing. I have been referred to a cardio vascular surgeon and a liver surgeon. I am worried about my health to the point I am now suffering from anxiety. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Hi, @bjmoonlight4. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Great that you pursued the pain in your right shoulder and the right quadrant of your body and that you've gotten lots of help from doctors thus far. Glad to hear that no cancer was found after the extensive testing.

I'd like to tag a few others who have discussed superior vena cava syndrome, enlarged hepatic vein in the liver, signs of a fatty liver or related conditions to join this conversation and provide support. Please meet @daniliz @predictable @uncw94 @kyork @interruptedivc @jeniliz @electric2001 @gardenlady1116 @bettersleep68 @annewoodmayo @billybella. They can also tell you what they know about these individual conditions and possibly about the combination of them.

bjmoonlight4, you mentioned you are worried about your health to the point of suffering from anxiety. Is there a particular part of your health, or the testing and treatment, that is giving you the most anxiety currently?
