Survey: nebulizers and compressor systems speed, etc.
A recent p.m. from another member about my nebulizer compressor recommendation, esp speed. I am very new to nebbing (18 months) compared to others and think a survey might be beneficial to compare our common uses-albuterol and NS.
1. Which compressor and nebulizer brand (mouth piece) do you use?
2. How long does it take you to nebulize albuterol?
3. How long does it take you to nebulize normal saline? Do you use 4ml (CVS or other) or 5ml (Amazon or other).
4. Misc pros or cons of your neb or your compressor?

Oh boy, I'm glad I found this thread. I was seen at Mayo-Jacksonville in October and the fellow said I have some minimal bronchiectasis. She recommended 3% saline twice a day and the Aerobika. My nebulizer is not handling it in what I consider a quick enough manner (less than like 40 minutes for 1/4 a cup......it's old). I get my flex plan money in January, so I have been "shopping" since. At first, I thought the PARI Trek S Portable would be good since I will be traveling to Mayo again for surgery (deep brain stimulation) next year. Then I read elsewhere that it was not that great. Then I started reading the Ombra setup was better. I am not concerned about a battery.
Any advice? Perhaps another. I have ADHD, so sitting like that feels terminal, and I also have sensory issues, so noise level is important. (I'm asking for the moon, without the $900 price point I guess)
Also..............yesterday my pulmonary doctor said I just have mucus plugging, not bronchiectasis......but the treatment is the say. Ugh. I think I will trust Mayo??
I use the Pari Pro-Neb Max on a daily basis, recommended by my doctor at Mayo Jacksonville. It is fast and efficient (I neb for 10 minutes with alburtol and 15 minutes with saline). I use the Pari Trek when traveling, as it is lighter, but it does not seem as effective. I would not buy it as my only nebulizer. I do like my doctor at Mayo Jacksonville, but their treatment plan seems to skip some steps. For example, I have no idea of the number of colonies I have and they have never tested me for acid reflux, etc. I am unable to go to NJH for various reasons, but if that was an option I would go in a heartbeat.

1 Reaction@gethersno I have the Ombra that NJH recommended. Easy to change the filter and place the tubing on. HOWEVER, it is somewhat noisy.
The XL Neb cup that can be ordered for it has breath mode activation and continuous mode activation. The time devoted to nebulizing can go faster, of course, on continuous mode activation.
I can't exactly tell you how long it takes to nebulize in itself because I alternate the session with postural drainage and huff coughing.

1 ReactionI used a Pari trek for my daily nebulizing for almost a year until it started slowing down.
After looking thru this thread and other scouting around, I got the Pari proneb max. I use the Pari LC Star ("red cap") handset. Pari's website says it makes smaller particles that can go deeper into the lungs / bronchioles. It may be slightly faster than the LC Sprint ("blue cap").
Very happy with this setup. I neb for 30 minutes at the same time as I use the smartvest. With breaks for clearing it's 30-40 minutes total.

2 Reactions@lvnl How loud does the Pari proneb max seem? I’ve been using my Pari Trek full time for a couple years since I knocked my table top nebulizer off and it broke. I’ve continued to use the Pari Trek S since it is so much quieter than my previous nebulizer. The noise from it really bothered me. I haven’t searched for anything else because they’re all probably noisy.
@kwi I still use the Proneb Max with Aeroeclipse neb. Using the phone app for decibels, it is at 66-67. I use 3M hearing protectors while I use it-doesn’t stop the noise, but decreases it some.
The Proneb max is still much faster than my fist compact and inexpensive Omron, which took forever!
@kwi I would rely more on @pacathy's advice here. I don't have a clear recollection of a difference in noise level between the Pari Trek & the ProMax. I do know when I want to listen to something online while I'm nebbing, I need to use headphones and they do shut out the noise.
