Survey: nebulizers and compressor systems speed, etc.

Posted by pacathy @pacathy, Dec 6 7:03am

A recent p.m. from another member about my nebulizer compressor recommendation, esp speed. I am very new to nebbing (18 months) compared to others and think a survey might be beneficial to compare our common uses-albuterol and NS.

1. Which compressor and nebulizer brand (mouth piece) do you use?

2. How long does it take you to nebulize albuterol?

3. How long does it take you to nebulize normal saline? Do you use 4ml (CVS or other) or 5ml (Amazon or other).

4. Misc pros or cons of your neb or your compressor?

1. ProNeb Max compressor and Aeroeclipse nebulizer.
2. Albuterol takes less than 10.
3. 5ml NS 7%-There was a very small amt left at 40 min. when had to leave. Note-my lung capacity is still good and I intermittently take deep breaths. Not sure how much that impacts speed.
4. The compressor is heavier, a bit louder and pricier than Omron I had initially, but MUCH faster. It’s a little louder-70dbls at machine. If I sit as far as tubing reaches it’s 60-62.

Note: Medicare covers mine at a small savings over Amazon.

1. Which compressor and nebulizer brand (mouth piece) do you use?
Mainly, but not always, eFlow Rapid Nebulizer system

2. How long does it take you to nebulize albuterol?
Zero minutes as I use an albuterol puffer and do not nebulize levalbuterol as it induces wheezing in me

3. How long does it take you to nebulize normal saline? Do you use 4ml (CVS or other) or 5ml (Amazon or other).
4 1/2 minutes per 4mL 7% saline

4. Misc pros or cons of your neb or your compressor?
Small, lightweight, portable, fast, reliable, can sterilize in Bololo
Pricey, handsets need to be replaced 1x/year, which are expensive.

How is it that Medicare covers it for you? They would only cover the cheap model which was not worth using.

1. Ombra compressor with Aeroclipse BAN nebulizers
2. Albuterol (3ml) takes 25 min (too long!!!)
3. 7% Saline (4ml) takes 20-25 minutes (again too long!!!)
4. Only that it takes too long to do all the nebulizing. Spending all that time twice daily just to nebulize is
excruciating. And it's not my "lung power" as I do an intense spin class 🚴‍♀️ 3 times a week and work out with
hand weights.

Medicare covers my saline. Sorry I wasn’t clear. It’s about 25 cents per vial cheaper, but it’s easier since meds are at CVS, too . I’d been paying out of pocket for saline but doc gave me Rx. I gave up on Medicare covering a nebulizer after a call or two.

1. ProNeb Max compressor and Pari sprint nebulizer.
2. Never used Albuterol but wonder about trying Levabuterol. So prone to fast heart rate so have not tried.
3. I use two viles of saline in the late morning session for a total of 9 ml. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes. I use one in the evening and it takes 10 to 15 minutes.
4. the Sprint cups seem to become defective after some time and take way too long. Then I have to replace before the recommended 6 months.

Ombra compressor and aeroclipse for 4 ml of sodium chloride 7%. Takes about 20 min. Levalbuterol two puffs in an inhaler before. I also use cromolyn sodium 2 ml 4 times a day with ombra compressor and pari sprint neb- about 5 minutes

This is such a great idea @pacathy. I am new (just a couple months) to nebulizing and have been making do with what insurance sent me which is not worth mentioning. It has been at the top of my list to upgrade my nebulizing set up so am very appreciative of this post and other members sharing their experiences.
