Stress and Parkinson's symptoms

Posted by esther589 @esther589, 3 days ago

I think my symptoms are increased when I feel stressed.
We currently have visitors staying close by and the pressure I feel to think about their needs every day as well as our own seems to be making my symptoms worse.
I've noticed it also when I go for hospital visits.
Do others experience this?

Most definitely. I have always stressed out over everything. Did all that stress cause the PD or did the PD cause the stress?

YES! I find that I am stressed much more easily than before the PD & react by being irritable, which I hate. I am doing my best to avoid "stressful" situations, like visitors or traveling or prolonged exposure to people! And this, from a so-called "party-girl"! Narrows my life..........makes me sad.......................

I understand. I don't feel like I am the same person anymore. I try be 'in the moment' but it's hard not to grieve the loss of your former self.

@esther589 YES! I completely understand & it makes me sad, too - I liked who I used to be & for me, that is one of the hardest parts f having PD!

Check out Parkinson Foundation website below for an article retitled "How Stress and Stress Management Impacts Parkinson's"

Sorry, "Entitled" not retitled! I blame Parkinson's for all typos!

Absolutely!! Stress, insufficient rest, and over exertion all bring on that "wall of fatigue" and worsening of basic symptoms associated with gait and balance. I've really had to curtail some entertaining and activities to protect myself as the increase in symptoms also increases my fall risk. 30 min of rest helps after a period of overexertion and planning my activities helps too. Take care of yourself and good luck.

That's a big YES from me too. If I so much as have a seriously stressful thought, it overrides my PD meds immediately -- the tremor comes back like I hadn't even taken the cd/ld that day, and other symptoms as well. 🙁
