Started using the aerobika to nebulize and exhale and salivary gland

Posted by dls224 @dls224, Sep 3, 2023

I am new to all of this (MACMAI cavity and bronchiectasis) and airway clearance! Never seen a respiratory therapist and still in process of full diagnosis.

I watched you tubes on it and I’d been using a plain set up to nebulize sodium chloride 7% twice a day prior to receiving the aerobika.

I used the aerobika with the cup to inhale/exhale simultaneously and I used it on 5 the first day; thinking I could since I’ve been using tue air physio.

Well I guess that’s a big no no and my salivary glands swelled and I had a low fever for two days on and off. Very gently used my old set up to attempt some subtle airway clearance and a lot of thick clear saliva type stuff has come out mostly since then. Head and neck still settling down from all the inflammation it created!

Lesson learned but now hoping I don’t need to go to an ENT this week! Really just want it to settle down and it seems to he slowly each day.

Anyone else experience anything like this !?

Ouch! I think you did too much too quickly and irritated something.
I personally cannot use the Aerobika on any setting with the nebulizer - too hard for me to breathe, and I start to hyperventilate.
Maybe try just the saline , and only do half of the vial, for a day or two, followed by the air physio or the Aerobika set to 2 or 3?
It sound like it is effective in helping you bring up mucus.

For some people 7% is too much. You could also try 3% for a while.

Can’t bring any sputum up, had bronchoscopy and lung collapsed

I have had salivary blockage only once since starting nebulizing. I had had it prior to treatment. Sucking on lemon drops and ibuprofen helped me and lots of water(hydration). My niece had experienced this so i knew it was usually self healing. I did go to urgent care as well. (And took ibuprofen for the pain).

Thanks for sharing that!! It was definitely scary! It did get better fully yesterday finally but it took about a week!
I too used ibuprofen and drank lots of water. No more aerobika for me with the nebbing!
