Stage 3B -CKD-Cysts on the Kidneys-Doctor Didn't Seem Concerned

Posted by sultanvr @sultanvr, Oct 18, 2024

Hello,
In March 2024 in response to a test which showed his EFGR at 43, his family doctor ordered an ultrasound on his kidneys.
In the findings they found various size cysts on both kidneys as well as a tumor on his adrenal gland. They shared that it was a benign tumor.
The doctor did not seen concerned about either and shared that he did not think that either would affect my husbands kidney health.
He did nothing at that time, but prescribe a diurectic which I later looked up and found that it can have adverse effects on ones kidneys.
1.) Has anyone had cysts or tumors and was told not to worry? Just curious.
After not feeling like our family doctor was treating my husband well, I asked for a referral to a Nephorologist, which our appointment is coming up in the next couple of week.
Thank you.

I have small cysts on my kidneys and have had two biopsies...was told they were typical and not to worry. I am in stage 4. I started semiglutide injections last spring and my numbers improved a bit. I'm getting more lab work done in January and anxious to see if there is more improvement.

@70freckles Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! It certainly seems like kidney cysts are fairly common, and glad to hear you have been told the ones your have are "typical". Are you on any schedule to have them rechecked, yet? Curious what the semiglutide is for, and what numbers improved?

I pay close attention to kidney / bladder stuff because I have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) stage 4. I have never been diagnosed with any kind of kidney cyst but my husband has. A urologist routinely scans it to look for changes in size and/or shape (first every 6 months, then yearly, now every 2 years and never any changes). He has been told that it is a “benign something but nothing to worry about”. His kidney function labs are great.

Thank you for sharing.

How has the semiglutide worked for you? (If you didn't mind sharing).
The doctor has mentioned it, but my spouse was worried about the side effects.
I hope you see improvement in your lab work in January.

@cl2020

I had same thing. My mass was 10cm. Benign.
I didn’t have any issues with recovery. I’m dealing with low egfr number now and have appointment with nephrologist in Feb.
glad to hear no cancer. That’s great news.
