Squamos Cell Carcinoma/ Skin Cancer

Posted by evelynvelasquez @evelynvelasquez, Jan 23 6:41pm

My husband 73 years old had 2022 Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the Orbit right eye. Strong Chemo and Immuno therapy destroy the Cancer. Now, the Cancer is back, on a different part in the face. Below the eye near the nose. Dr recommend chemo, radiation (not so happy about this) and sugerey?? Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the eye is very seldom not often announced ( 12x in the world)? Somebody have experience with this kind of Skin Cancer including Treatment and the live after?

hi william, lilyann here. would the proton radiation work on enlarged lymph nodes. the pet scan showed they have enlarged since june of 2024. i had the right radical neck dissection in january of 2023 and march for the left side. they did want to do the photon radiation but first i had to have some dental work done and it took over a month to heal. guess due to my age. so curious to know if that would be possible to "shrink" the lymph nodes in the neck. thank you

I can’t really answer that question. Your oncologist would be best. Certainly Proton is far more precise and less invasive than Photon radiation.

Hi Lilyann,
Proton radiation works on killing cancer cells primarily and is very "pin-point" in its application. Lymph nodes can be swollen for many reasons, usually as an indication they are doing the work of a filter and are breaking down the bad stuff in your body. Certainly if it is known that the lymph node is full of cancer, radiation would work to eliminate the cancer. However, cancerous lymph nodes are usually removed rather than be radiated as a treatment.
At least this is my understanding. I am not a medical doctor.

hi william, lilyann here. thank you for your reply. we got further news on the pet scan of how i had even more spots that lit up plus increase in sizes. so it has progressed immensely. so i didn't even get a chance to talk to the oncologist about any radiation as she wants to put me on another medicine called cabometyx. so i also just checked some of my blood work and urea was high and my creatine and thyrotropin is low. so that is the news for now. i was wondering how anyone done taking that cancer medicine cabonmetyx. so thank you again for your help. i don't know what i would do with out contacting all of you on mayo connect. god bless all.
