Sojourns disease and no saliva and new crowns adding to complications
Please my son diagnosed with Sojourns disease.
So uncomfortable with not producing saliva.
Also had 28 crowns put on in 2 days at dentist and now having nerve pain in teeth
Did this right before diagnosis. Bad decisions
What can he do to be comfortable and produce saliva?

I had one crown removed and a new one put on and this happened to me. I was tested for Sojourns disease, but they said I did not have it. I haven't produced saliva since that dental visit, 2 years ago. I've been back to that dentist over and over and also every kind of other dentist and specialist you can imagine. I had the crown replaced twice, finally to get an implant that was 11,000!!! Still nothing changed. I now wonder if I have BMS. I just don't know what to do!!!

2 ReactionsI have had Sjögren's plus Sleraderma and I just keep sipping water all day and when I wake up in the night as well.. My mouth stays so dry if not.. I'm sorry your son has that. I have Raynouds disease as well. Small blood vessel disease and have had several small ischemic strokes because of it. So many problems.. I have lower BP and always have. I take a statin to help not have clots to block small blood vessels in my brain. I also have antiphospholipid syndrome and it's a blood clotting issue in my blood another autoimmune disease. Having Connective Tissue Disease is quite terrible as there's no cure for any of them.. Good luck all!!

4 ReactionsMy rheumatologists have prescribed Salagen (pilocarpine). I have taken it for years. Recently I began taking another med which is drying, so I have added a Xylimelt tablet at night. I also use biotène spray when needed.
I also added a prescription toothpaste from my dentists, which leaves a slight coating to protect the teeth.

4 ReactionsI also have it. I use XyliMelts for my dry mouth. And I know there are other products out there as well.
I can’t believe you did so many crowns at one time my dentist will only do 2 at a time.
Wishing you both the very best.

1 Reaction@linda1976 Has a rheumatologist done the 'Early Sjogren's Syndrome Profile' on you? I did not test positive on the 'regular' Sjogren's test, but because of my symptoms, this Early Profile test was done. It was developed because the standard test doesn't pick up Sjogren's until a certain amount of damage has already been done; the Early Sjogren's test can catch it sooner so that the doctor has a better idea on whether to start treatment. I am currently taking Hydroxychloroquine which has helped with inflammation, it might be worth checking out. I just found out today I need two crowns and a root canal, pretty overwhelming isn't it?!

2 ReactionsOH WOW!!! That is the one doctor I have not been too. That is all valuable information. I'm going to find a doctor close by. Also, does the Hydroxychloroquine help with your mouth??
Yes, it is very over whelming! I feel like my back teeth are hurting now. But a month ago I had ex rays and they said they were fine.
Boy, have I had a lot of ex rays.
Thank you, Sooo Sooo Much!!!

2 ReactionsI have been living with Sjögren’s syndrome for 30 years. I am currently completing my final four dental implants; all of my teeth are now either individual implants or supported by implant-retained bridges. After experiencing the failure of two root canals with crowns—followed by the need to replace them with implants anyway—I decided against pursuing further root canal treatments, as they proved both unreliable and prohibitively expensive in my case. Consequently, I transitioned directly to implants for subsequent restorations.
To manage the severe dry mouth associated with Sjögren’s, I keep sips of water available throughout the day and regularly use Biotene oral rinse. While reducing sugar intake can help preserve natural teeth in many cases, unfortunately this strategy did not prevent the extensive dental deterioration I experienced.

1 Reaction@linda1976 So far the Hydroxychloroquine has helped. I've seen definite improvement in joints where I had pain from inflammation. My eyes are still dry, but better; my mouth is better if I remember to drink water during the day. I've only been on it for about 4 months, so the rheumatologist is still tweaking my meds. Hope that helps!

It does help a lot. I'm looking for a doctor today to do a more intense test.
