Skin changes with prednisone

Posted by shesnuts @shesnuts, Oct 18, 2022

I had always had great skin, but on 60 g of prednisone. I am experiencing a lot of sagging and thinning of my skin, particularly in my upper arms. I also have extreme bruising whenever anything, touches my forearm or my legs. I also have a lot of capillaries breaking in my legs and face now will this change when I get off of prednisone or lower my dose ? I am still not pain-free. Every step reminds me that I have this disease.

@anirose You are SO right we look okay so not sure doctors, etc take us seriously. They can’t believe what we are going through internally.

True...they treat a symptom. Prescription pad out. There you go! Eastern medicine treats both the mind and body as one. I went to an Asian doctor once, and I felt comforted that my emotional needs were met too. After all, both are housed in the same body, so they both need help to heal.

I also have bleeding under ski. If I bump myself. Had it a little before prednisone, skin Doc said it was from sun damage. Now worse on prednisone. Have started using Dermend moisturizing bruise formula with good results.

Dermend? I shall try that. Good to get ideas to help. Thx.

I am having facial surgery thanks to what prednisone does to ones skin. Not only did the surgeon tell me pre op to reduce my prednisone from 3.5 to 2.5 (I guess that's a magic number?) to reduce post op swelling/inflamation and infection, but to also stop all fish oils,
Omega 3, aspirin, NSAIDS, anything that can thin my blood... since it also causes excessive bruising. I didn't realize the overlap of blood thinning pills that I was taking until I Googled each one. So far Tylenol aka acetaminophen aka Paracetamol is filling in for pain relief. Lots of sleep to restore energy. My regular doctor prescribed Quviviq for sleep because it doesn't contribute to dementia like many other sleep meds can. Virtual hugs and may God grant us the ability to bear whatever comes our way, to love, and appreciate each new day! 🤗

I’m on 7.5. My skin is so dry and tears so easily. Moisturized daily and plenty of water. Haven’t seen a change.

Same here. Even this summer I wore long sleeves just to hide the skin on my arms.

I am experiencing the same thing and am embarrassed by my seemingly instantly aged skin. Always, bruised. Always testing. Always bleeding. Looks like I am 80. It bothers me a lot but didn't want to bring it up as the pain can be so bad with this illness that it seemed as if I might be being petty. Thank you for sharing. I am sorry for what I r going through but appreciate knowing I am not alone.
