Skin changes with prednisone

Posted by shesnuts @shesnuts, Oct 18, 2022

I had always had great skin, but on 60 g of prednisone. I am experiencing a lot of sagging and thinning of my skin, particularly in my upper arms. I also have extreme bruising whenever anything, touches my forearm or my legs. I also have a lot of capillaries breaking in my legs and face now will this change when I get off of prednisone or lower my dose ? I am still not pain-free. Every step reminds me that I have this disease.

I also have bleeding under ski. If I bump myself. Had it a little before prednisone, skin Doc said it was from sun damage. Now worse on prednisone. Have started using Dermend moisturizing bruise formula with good results.

I have had a terrible time with my skin too. Especially my forearms and tops of my hands. I have been using Aquafor to keep skin moisturized. Works better than any lotion or cream I’ve found.
When it gets a little cooler you can order “sleeves” for extra protection. They come in lots of colors and sizes. Just search online for “thin skin protection “.

Thanks for sharing about the thin skin protection. I had not heard of this. My poor husband has been on Prednisone for PMR and GCA for over a year. He started on 30 mg for PMR, went down to 12.5 when he developed GCA, went on 80 mg as well as three 1200 mg infusions and is now finally back down to 12.5. This has wreaked havoc on his skin on his arms and hands, mostly. I notice skin sagging on his upper arms and so much bruising and easy bleeding. Now he's getting red little spots and rashes which he's never had.
