I did the "vinegar soaks". You mix vinegar and water and use clean fabric. In my case I cut up an old turtleneck antd t shirt. I used strips of the t shirt soaked in the solution and wrung them out just so they didn't drip or run. Then wound the closely around my neck. After 20 to 30 minutes I took them off, I let the skin air dry a bit and applied either CeraVe or Aquaphor. The nurse gave me Vaseline gauze strips that came folded and I covered my neck with two of,those. Then covered the whole thing with wide strips of t shirt material and taped it to keep it in place. Mine healed quickly...about a week.

I used 1 part distilled white vinegar to 4 parts water. I used the t shirt and turtleneck fabric because they were well worn and didn't leave any lint behind. Once I had those in place I wrapped a bath towel around over the,top to keep them in place.
i use coconut oil mixed with turkish coffee. my radiation doctor said me and i use " kantaron oil" . you can google it.both of them ok for after use radiation. after every shower i use bepantol

Your R/O should have gone over the routine buring of tissue where Proton Radiation Beam enter the body. They should have told you that you will most likely get a burn hear like a sunburn (radiation also).
I did not get it until last couple of weeks of radiation but it was red then turned color of tan. My dermatologist told me this is common and not to worry the radiation burn/tan will take some time to heal but it will.
And it did. It did take a couple of months after but slowly and slowly went away.
Does anyone have any experience with discomfort in the groin area after APR surgery. My skin continues to be very tender and mildly irritated. I try to avoid sitting for long periods of time to alleviate it. I’m uncertain if there are any creams or ointments that are safe for me.

My neck was very very burnt from the radiation, and I was advised by my care team to use 4 products in conjunction with each other to assist in healing:
• Aquafor/lidocaine mixture,
• Xeroform (Dukal Xeroform Petrolatum Gauze, Sterile, 5" W x 9"),
• Domeboro (Domeboro Rash Relief Medicated Soak, Calming & Soothing, Powder Packets)
• Gauze that was like a turtle neck (couldn’t find the exact brand).
Two or three times each day, I would first soak my neck using a medicated wash called Domeboro. I would dip a bandana in the solution and wrap it on my neck for perhaps 20 minutes. I would then mix Aquafor and liquid lidocaine 50/50%. I would open a Xeroform strip, unfurl it, cut it in two pieces and spread the Aquafor/lidocaine mixture on one side of the Xeroform and put it on my neck with the mixture against my neck. I would use the gauze to hold it in place. I would leave it on for perhaps an hour or more, until it felt like it was drying.
For me, after the Domeboro, the skin actually looked kind of white and gelatinous. As it healed, the skin area like that decreased, I guess meaning it was healing. I did this for close to 2 months after treatment until my neck appeared healed.

1 ReactionI did 35 sessions of proton. All I uses was Aquaphor 4 x a day. I did not cover it. I also used Vitamin E oil to hasten healing.
