Questions about Eliquis and Meds for Pain Relief

Posted by cece55 @cece55, Mar 2, 2019

I have a question for the group. I was diagnosed with AFib three months ago and after my first event I was put on a low dose aspirin along with my metoporal that I had been taking for a year. The dosage for the metoporal was 12.5 MG three times a day. After my second event of AFib six weeks ago, my electrophysiologist put me on Eliquis. The dosage is 5 MG twice a day. I felt fine for 4 weeks and then two weeks ago I started to have aching and stiffness in my lower back and hips. I might also add that I have very tight hips and lower back for years before this and have seen a physical therapist and added yoga and advil to my regimen. That seemed to give me a tolerance level over the years and I have been able to live with it.

Now...no advil allowed and I just saw a physical therapist again today who I will start working with next week. How do I know if I am having a reaction to the Eliquis or I am in a flare with my already tight hips and back? Is there a blood test to request? Possibly checking my liver and kidney function? The physical therapist also said I have osteo arthritis which could be contributing to this.

I am frustrated because I don't know how you tell the difference between a side effect and an existing condition that has worsened. I really don't want to chance going off the blood thinner....but what other way is there to tell?

Has anyone experienced this aching and does it finally go away if it is the Eliquis? I am not having any other problems with this drug except that there is not an over the counter medication for pain that you can take with it except Tylenol which has no effect on me.

Thank you for your input.

Same here. 25 Marathons, some sub 3 hrs. Recent research shows many endurance athletes get Afib from having enlarged hearts.

Yes
In this order
April woke up with psoiasis , ignored for a coupla weeks, then got steroid creme fro Doc
July contacted covid, was very sick for a coupla days, and had my vacs
Got bit by pit bull in July, he put my hand in his mouth and shook it, somehow I got it back, and hand is ok now
In Aug, went for annual physical, and said the wrong thing to my great internist, that I had been tired during work, but I should have told him I am doing a different job, and now am shop mgr for automotive repair, 8hrs no sitting, in 102* heat. Whoops
Immediately after that, he did listened all round my chest, his assistant did the EKG test, and wham, I had an appt at a cardiologist.
He recommended I go on Eliquis for the rest of my life

I am 78 yrs old and have been on Eliquis since 1/2019 because of AFIB. I had an Ablation Surgery 11/2020 at Mayo Clinic. AFIB gone! But still on Eliquis 5 mg 2 times daily and I swim. No Back or Hip pain.

Why still on Eliquis with no Afib?

The only time I experienced AFIB was during three operations. My two Blood pressure monitors and a Kardio Mobile show no signs of it. None of my EKG's show it. I have mentioned this to two cariologists but I'm still on Eliquis?

With my Chad test score of .9%, and Eliquis not recommended with no symptons for that score, I was put on Eliquis which is supposed to lower the risk of stroke by ~25%, which would put me at ~7%. Not worth the hassle of Eliquis side effects for me. I am looking for an explanation too

I had a lone Afib episode in December 2015. It lasted less than 1 hour and was determined that it was caused by drinking 1 margarita!!! I don't drink at all, but that night we were celebrating our daughter's birthday and one of her friends said I should try one. I had been working all day and not drinking enough water and was apparently dehydrated. The alcohol was not tolerated by my body which caused the Afib. I was tested for every possible heart incident and everything was normal. Doctor put me on 5 mg Eliquis and 25 mg Atenolol since then. I have had no issues at all. He said that since I am probably predisposed to Afib, it would be a good idea to stay on these medications. i have had no Afib issues since 2015. My Chad score is 2 simply because of age and the fact that I am female. There should be a better way of assigning these scores to determine if these meds are truly necessary.

eliquis nearly put me in a wheelchair, still recovering from that poison, weakened my entire body so I could barely walk, the statins are mostly off patent so there is a big push to get people on patented blood thinners imho, I took natural blood thinners recovering from dvt, circulation evergreen, I liked it much better than the poisonous eliquis, one person's opinion

I still am on Eliquis after a successful Ablation Surgery because I had a Blood Clot found a accidentally deep in my upper leg prior to AFIB.

All my friends over 80 have AFIB and all have been vaccinated for Covid.
Since I quit alcohol, no AFib.

I’m 76. Had 1 afib event per year that lasted very short time. Got 2 shots and ended up with persistent afib lasting weeks . Since the shots,I have had 4 cardioversions and two ablations. Have not and will not get boosters. BTW I also have hadCovid twice—- once before vax and once after. Fortunately I got over both within a week. No afib since last ablation but then it’s only been 5 days
