SIBO and Rapid Gastric Emptying or Dumping Syndrome

Posted by dheavner @dheavner, Dec 24, 2019

Does anyone els have these 2 diagnoses together?
I read more about gastropheris accompanied with SIBO.
I am 9 months into this sickness triggered by food /water poisoning in Mexico. I have done 4 rounds of antibiotics and am finally seeing a GI motility specialist, and also looking at Mayo if she cannot help me.
Anyone with similar diagnoses with advice on what has helped them. I have lost 70 pounds, constant nausea even with Zofran, dizziness and sugar drops after eating, constipation and just feel terrible.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

@dheavner

Thanks Colleen
I am using Ascarbose with meals to prevent the blood sugar drops when dumping starts quickly after eating I lay flat.. I eat low fodmap, gluten free, no added sugar and had to cut out fruits
I also have SIBO with Constipation
The other strange thing is that I don’t have diarrhea with the dumping
The question is I the SIBO causing dumping, or dumping causing SIBO
I am seeing a local motility expert soon and scheduled with the Mayo Motility Clinic in March
I am tired and weary but thankful for the care that n place coming up!

@claytamos You can actually have both. The food can sit in the stomach.. actually long enough to make a bezoar and then you will suddenly start dumping. The dumping usually contains both solid and liquid. Every day before dumping you may actually have normal bowel habits.. no constipation. You wonder where did all this crap come from??? For some reason the stomach will digest some foods and not others. I had to stop eating raw foods and eat soft cooked food to make them more digestible to help my situation. I also watch my sugar and greasy food intake. I started taking a probiotic which helped tremendously with the liquid bowel movements and dumping syndrome. I tried several, but Align works best for me. Now I have a swallowing problem and my food stacks in my esophagus. I am coping 😀

I think @dheavner 's problem is probably a bacteria one and needs testing as others have said. My brother had c-diff and it is hard to get rid of.. hopefully that is not dheavner's problem.

Did your swallowing problems ever resolve? My gastro adventure started in February.. included rapid dumping and food sticking, then added food moving up into my nose as I was trying to swallow. They just gave me a prescription for antibiotics yesterday and are referring me to an ENT for the “nose issue”. Not MAYO, another provider
