Shower Safety

@kjoed53 ;I used a sliding shower seat for the first time yesterday. Sit down, slide into the tub still seated. How great it was to take a full shower without the risk of falling. They do produce a seat that does not slide but you are 'on your own' until you get seated inside the tub. The only caveat is that the legs are not adjustable from one side of the tub to the other. If your tub is too narrow it will not fit correctly.

You can't have too many grab bars!
Grab bars make fine towel racks, and they're there when you need them.
Places with one or two steps (and no rail) can be made much safer with a grab bar.
I wondered if I was going too far installing grab bars, then my wife had two surgeries and I had a back injury.
We were very grateful to have grab bars. It's a different world when your body is weak or in pain.

I was using mine in a small stand alone shower, so I didn't have to worry about stepping over more than the few inches of lip for that. I have a very narrow tub in my other bathroom that would probably only work with the stool sideways. I was also looking for the least expensive option that worked for me because I only needed that for the duration of wearing a cast for my broken ankle.

Grab bars attached to walls.
Non-profit slip washable mat
One to one CNA assistance.
Shower for 7 minutes in total
Clothes to change into.
Back to where you want to be.

@mtnmarge Yes, a sliding seat is very helpful for a tub.
If I didn't have a walk-in shower, I'd have one for my tub.

Analyze your bathroom configuration and spend time online looking at bathroom products that increase your safety and cleaning ability. I once saw a brush with a suction cup that attached to the floor so you could vigorously scrub the bottom of your feet. “What a great idea” and when I decided to get one, I couldn’t remember the supplier or the name.

I’m ancient enough to remember the comedy team of Burns and Allen. George would be smoking a cigar and be the straight man for his wife Gracie.

“Gracie, why did you buy two different sized chickens?”

‘When the small one is burned, the big one is cooked.”

Gracie died years ago and George was doing routines even when he was over 100. He joked that he was booked for the next ten years.
I read that he fell in the shower and declined after the incident.

Old age requires that you constantly adjust to your aging body.
