Shortness of breath a year and a half after recovering from Corona

Posted by romeo51 @romeo51, Feb 27, 2023

Hello, I am 26, after contracting Corona a year and a half ago, I suffer from shortness of breath almost continuously, and shortness of breath affects my work and my life, and I felt that shortness of breath with cold weather increases and with many other things, even though before Corona I did not suffer from shortness of breath at all. Is there a similar condition for me and recovery and what are the explanations About shortness of breath and what are the ways to reduce shortness of breath after recovery from Corona .. I wish you a speedy recovery

I DONT KNOW IF YOU HAVE SEEN A PULMONARY DOCTOR AND HAVE A CHEST XRAY AND PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST. YOU PROBABLY WILL BE GIVEN AN INHALER. ALBUTERAL AND POSSIBLE A STEROID TO TAKE. I MYSELF HAD SHORTNESS OF BREATH, AND HAD EXTRINSIC ASTHMA WHICH WOULD BOTHER ME ONCE EVERY 2,3 YEARS. NOW I WAKE UP AT NIGHT BREATHLESS AND COUGHING, THE INHALER HELPS. GOOD LUCK

Hi @romeo51. Know how daunting this can be and there are many ways to find answers thru reading these posts and persistence with your healthcare system. I finally had sleep study with assistance of post covid clinic doctor, after year of post covid breathing difficulties affecting all aspects of life during day and night, that confirmed tachycardia, Apnea, and other central nervous system affected issues. Your pcp hopefully could refer you to post covid clinic for at least phone consult and neurologist to help rule out apnea and other nervous system issues. Hope this helped!🙂

Isn't it frustrating? I was 39 years old when I contracted the Alpha variant. I had a very mild case (like a cold), but had long COVID symptoms that persist to this day (almost three years later). Congestion-like feeling in airways is something that has improved, but has not totally gone away. Like you, no issues before COVID. I've had a chest x-ray, a pulmonary function test, and a laryngoscopy (look at larynx and pharynx through a camera that is put into throat) - all were normal. I do use Flonase for my upper airways, which seems to calm my sinuses down. But, nothing has helped my lower airways. I'm chalking it all up to inflammation of the airways, possibly the mucosal linings. I always feel like I need to clear my throat, but nothing is usually there. I also feel like it's hard to get air into and out of my lungs when exercising. Almost like I'm breathing through a straw in my lower throat area. I am using Zyrtec and Pepcid (H1 and H2 antihistamines) to try to lower inflammation - I think these are what have helped improve my breathing symptoms a bit. Hope you find some relief soon!

Hi, I’ve been suffering from the same symptoms for the past 3 months after contracted with Covid last Nov, plus chest pain and fatigue. 2 chest X rays and 1 CT scan showed nothing. I have seen pulmonologists, cardiologists and ENT, got no diagnosis.

Many (like me) have received an asthma diagnosis post Covid. Asthma typically worsens in cold weather for many. See a pulmonologist for testing. There are meds that will help. I’m doing much better now.

I got COVID 8 months ago. The doctor diagnoses me asthma and give me Symbicort 160/4.5 twice a day. The symptom of shortness of breath comes and goes but is always here. The lung function test shows abnormality. Anyway, I started running 15 minutes a day now and hope excursive can bring my life back.
