Severe pain 1 yr after colon resection

Posted by kets @kets, Dec 12, 2021

My husband has Severe pain 1 year after 4 inches of colon removed because of diverticulitis. He Feels fine sleeping but when upright and going throughout the day, pain returns. When he eats, pain. When he goes to the restroom, pain. Nothing helps. He has had multiple CT scans with and without contrast. Nothing reported. Blood work shows elevation in neutrophils but everything else is normal. What could this be? He is becoming more and more discouraged.

I had Colon Resection January 23 It is now May 23 12” of colon removed with diverticulitis and severe inflammation. I’ve had every complication. The latest is bleeding at the reconnection site and two other places. For that I had a partial colonoscopy and three places cauterized. Now three weeks later I’m having so much pain and a little blood in my stool 2 days ago. CT scan with do yeast was inconclusive. I decided to just take it easy. As I lay here 12:48 am with so much pain. Sharp and burning pain.
I’m scared actually. I don’t want to keep running to the ER. The co pays gets to be a lot.

Hi I had a partial resectiion of my sigmoid, in 2006 it is now 2023. I am 69 years old and six years ago. I started getting severe pain at night on the left side where the sigmoid was removed pain and I couldn’t even take stabbing so like someone was digging a knife in my side every single night I got the same pain almost the same time sometimes during the day, so I got another CAT scan. They didn’t say anything and my doctor in Georgia now, I was notified, and I spoke with him and he said it probably was scar tissue forming I had to watch my diet and watch what I eat. Mainly drink a lot of water so much water that all I did was get up and have to pee check with your surgeon. There must be something going on that would be Noticeable..

Sounds like a good reason not to have that surgery.

Talk to your doctor but it’s good that you have gas. That means everything is working.

@fancylovatt23, how are you doing? May I ask for what condition you had the colon resection?

We have exactly the same problem, my wife had a resection, last procedure, before that had adhesions removed and a twisted bowel three different procedures were done within a four month period, Things were manageable after about five months and then about 4 months ago, stared all over again, soon as she eats something or drinks, she gets, severe pain, nausea, tingling or needles and pins in all her body, She had a catscan done on about 5 weeks ago and then a week later by paramedics, a xrays, and two weeks ago admitted to the hostital a colonostopy, the found nothing, all her blood work was normal, but she still has these problems, I asked several times is there something else, they say not nothing they can do. To bad it seems to me not a pro, that there is something that can be cured there in that belly somewhere, the pain is in the operation area.

I had surgery on my colon and intestines a year ago due to a bullet wound to my abdomen. I had 3 different surgeries. Thankfully no colostomy bag, The doctors explained I’d have complications months after but it has been a year and 3 months and I still have colon pain and sometimes don’t poop for days at a time. I am constantly bloated and am worried something more serious could be progressing.

I had a sigmoid resection because of diverticulitis 15 months ago. I live in chronic lower abdominal pain everyday, chronic constipation. I’ve lost 20 lbs because when I eat the pain is worse, when and if ihave a bowel movement the pain gets worse. If I lie down all day it’s not too bad but never goes away. My surgeon has basically given up on me and keeps referring me to other doctors that don’t do anything because nothing shows up on the cat scans. I live on opioids that don’t do anything. I actually am getting to the point of not living anymore with this pain. I have had since I came home after my surgery so I think he might have done something wrong. I’m not here to blame anyone just to find an answer. Suggestions?
