Maybe someone will have a better answer, but I don’t think there is a cure, per se. There is a lot of things that can be done to help you manage this. If you don’t already, I suspect you will need multiple specialists, I would recommend a university hospital or large regional hospital. I suspect you will eventually need an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, perhaps a surgeon. A nutrition specialist is probably a good idea. A good internal medicine doctor will help you to coordinate all the specialists.

The only cases I have seen were in the hospital setting and much supportive care was needed, including IV nutrition IV fluids , close monitoring for infection. In the cases I’ve seen, surgery was often, if not always required (though remember I only saw hospitalized patients who are typically sicker than patients at home).

Patients need to be be closely monitored for Long term complications such as new onset diabetes, impaired digestive enzyme production (can be managed with pill form of enzymes), something called disconnected pancreatic duct syndrome (you can google this) which often leads to fluid buildup needing drainage, portal hypertension (high blood pressure in the liver system), strictures, chronic pancreatitis.

I say all this to impress on you the importance of regular follow ups with your PCP and specialists. Keep lots of notes and try to educate yourself as much as possible. Learn as much as you can about the medications you take. I think a good lifestyle is not impossible. Learn to be your own best advocate.

I hope this helps ❤️. I’ll be thinking about you. Keep us informed as to your progress
