Seed localization procedure
Is the seed procedure painful? I have an intraductal papilloma that is being surgically removed. I found the behind the nipple needles for the mri biospy that found the papilloma to be very painful. I assume they will need to numb the same area?

I had seed procedure before lumpectomy I didn’t feel anything 😊
Good luck on all.

Thank you. Was the numbing needle near the nipple nerve endings ? Biospsy itself was easy but the 3 numbing needles really hurt.

1 ReactionI honestly did not feel anything when they placed seed I really didn’t
Are we talking about same seed procedure? this was the seed placed day before surgery so they know exactly where tumor was.
Yes they are placing a seed before surgery, They will be removing a large benign intraductral papilloma that is causing nipple discharge and also to verify that the biospy did mot miss any cancer cells. Given the location near the nipple nerve endings I found the numbing very painful, the biospy itself did not hurt. Just want to prepare myself, but I guess it is too variable for me get exact experiences from others.
Mine was done the morning of surgery at the mammogram center. Yes, the numbing needles hurt, but I still felt every one of those 6 shots around the nipple! Then I went directly to the surgery center two blocks over. Why, in this day and age, can't they do this at the surgery center AFTER we are sedated?!!! Hope yours go well..

3 ReactionsYes, why? I am going to try applying 5% lidocaine cream beforehand.

2 Reactions@jeaniem I've been scheduled for this procedure the day prior to surgery. My doctor is going to prescribe a Valium, and I am planning on taking an Uber. I'm sure that anytime they stick us with a needle, it is painful.... I've been told the pain only lasts a second or two. My biggest hope is that I glow in the dark afterwards. 🙂 Good luck to you, and I have some lidocaine cream. I think that's a great idea. However, you may want to check with your doctor first. Cream may interfere with the procedure. -Jane

Thanks. I have had biospy needle that was truly just a pinch, but the mri biospy with the retroareolar needles behind the nipple really hurt! I would not use the cream before a biospy for fear that it might skew results, but I plan to ask about the cream.
Best wishes to you!
@jeaniem whats a seed procedure
@richandjanice
It is a tracer that shows the breast surgeon where to find the area they are removing.
