2 Reactions@andreaharrell I’m so sorry to hear about your child with schizophrenia. It must be beyond difficult for you. Does this child live with you? You have probably looked at this discussion group on mental health , but let me tell you a way to find more specific information. Open the page to the Mental Health group. At the top of the page
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/mental-health/
On the left side, it says mental health. Click on this and you will be taken to the ‘home page’ for mental health. In the search box just above the list of discussions, type schizophrenia. Then type search or return (or whatever your computer uses). Up comes a list of all the subjects that have schizophrenia listed as a key subject, some are old topics, but may have good info. I’m giving you this way to find appropriate topics because I really don’t think you’ll find anything in the Caregivers discussion group. Most caregiver discussions are more focused one caring for the sick adult or the elderly. I hope you will find the information you want. Please let me know how your search goes—I really want to help. Becky

3 ReactionsHello @andreaharrell, I agree with @vijay26 that the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) is a good place to start. It helped my wife and I learn how to work with our son when he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia as a teenager. He's now in his mid 50s and doing well on his medications and his diagnosis changed over the years as the mental health field has improved. NAMI has local chapters around the country where you can meet with other parents dealing with similar mental health conditions. NAMI has a page to help you find a local group - https://www.nami.org/find-your-local-nami/.
The local support group helped us learn to be better listeners when talking to our son so that we could work with his doctors on better treatments. Have your child's doctor offered any suggestions or treatments?

5 ReactionsHello,
Thank you for the reply, my daughter is 30 and on medication but still has bad episodes and many times not sure how to deal with it. Hope it will improve for her too. At least she knows what is happening around her and can maintain a job.

She is 30 and a girl. She has episodes that last an hours or less even that she is on medication.
