Scar tissue in throat caused by radiation and chemo treatment

Is there anything done to remove scar tissue so you can eat?

I had some scar tissue after chem/radiation/major surgery for Stage 4 esophageal cancer. During my recovery, I had my esophagus stretched under sedation. During 1 of the stretchings, the doctor broke thru the scar tissue and my swallowing was much better.

Hi, I had radiation on the left side of my throat for HPV+16 Cancer between 23 Jan to 25 March,2017. It has been over 5 years and I continue to have 6 month checkups. They say a year but I said no, every 6 months. Each time
they go down my throat they comment about the PERMANENT SCARRING that I will have. My UW-Madison WI medical team have never suggested nor offered any type of scar removal treatment and trust me, I have plenty. I lost all my lower left teeth from the radiation spray so eating remains a daily routine of eating mushy stuff.
Bottomline, I have learn to live with what I have knowing nothing can be done about it. But I am alive so I
accept the trade off. Good Luck and God Bless

My bf had neck/throat cancer about 8 years ago. After major surgery to the throat, neck, and jaw, as well as radiation, he now has a persistent cough that won’t go away and sometimes has trouble with aspiration when eating certain foods. Anyone else suffer with this and what has helped if so?

I had cancer twice. 1st was of my left vocal chord, tge 2nd was bade of the tongue and left tonsil. I can't drink anything which causes severe dryness in my throat. I have horrible coughing spells. The ONLY thing that helps me is Mucinex DM which has a green/white label. After taking it, my cough immediately goes away. Amazing medicine. Have your b/f try it. Also, Delsum cold/cough medicine might help. Try those.

Hi, I had Larynx Cancer, had Hypofractional Rad, twice daily. Was it Rough , Yes, finished Radiation 3/22/22..all looks good but still dealing with Side Effects, now 2 weeks ago my voice totally went Hoarse . Bad..I still have Mucus & A Dry throat..No recurrence as of October 18th, next CT Scan in January 2023, has anyone else had vocal problems, post radiation..I was fine for 4 months , it could be Late effects ..
As for a Feeding tube, I declined it, I did loose 40lbs, but drank alot of Protein..I really should of gotten it, because I spoke to people and they were thankful they got it, infact they were sorry when they took it out..Despite the ups & downs & the treatment being sometimes unbearable, we pull through..and for that I am so grateful..

A nasal spray has helped me and also being more aware when I am eating. Talking while eating causes most of my aspirations.
