Saxenda and side effects of depression?

Posted by neilc @neilc, Jun 5, 2019

Hello, I am on Cipralex, mirtazipine and respirodone for depression and anxiety. My diagnosis is major depression with psychotic features. My weight loss Doctor says I am always hungry as a side effect of respirodone and cipralex. He mentioned a appetite suppressant called Saxenda. But I read up on it and one side effect of it ican be depression. I am weary of starting the drug because of this, Has anyone tried Saxenda who suffers from depression and anxiety? Did it worsen your depression?

I was on Saxenda for 4 weeks on by the 4th week I was so depressed I couldn’t stand it. I’ve been off it for 3 days and already feel 5 times better. That is my experience for what is worth. It did work as a weight loss drug though and I had no real cravings or appetite.

Hi -- I just started Saxenda and have a history of depression -- currently on Wellbutrin and lexapro. I am concerned it is affecting my mood. Since starting to take it I've been much more anxious and depressive. I've also been very fatigued. Anyone else have any insights to contribute?

Hi, wondering if it was easy to come off Saxenda? I’m in the same boat and thinking of stopping the 2.4 dose but am afraid of withdrawal.
What are your thoughts?

Hi I am also on Lexapro and this is the second time on Saxenda. I initially lost 20kilos which has crept back. Not sure if lexapro does that?
Feels like I’m more depressed and low. I am also exhausted so I am seeing doctor and will probably stop the sax. I’ve not lost much weight after 4 weeks this time. Have heard from others that their mood lifts almost straight away. Really hopeful because I don’t feel very good at all.

Hey there, iv tried saxenda and suffered with prior depression & anxiety! This is the worst drug iv ever tried in my life! This drug caused me to have severe de And severe anxiety, and also made me suicidal and iv never been suicidal with regards to my depression and anxiety! I was wakening every morning with panic attacks with this drug! I was having fast and hard palpitations due to low blood sugar and also i was severely fatigued and every muscle in my body wss aching due to how tense my body wss, i was having cold sweats die to low blood sugar and dizzy, felt nauseous and trembling and shaking due to nevers but ot of my symptoms were from low blood sugar while using Saxenda and i have no history of diabetes! People with mental health should absolutely AVOID saxenda! As it made me feel like i didnt want to be a part of life or this world anymore and iv never had that from any drug in the past! After a two/three days i was back to my happy self and im now terrified to try Saxenda again due to how awful i felt with severe depression and severe anxiety and being severely suicidal from Saxenda pen!

@paulinegreen79 what you posted sounds truly terrible! I would be bringing these concerns to the attention of the Dr. that prescribed this stuff. Could you do that? If that isn’t possible it might be time to switch to a psychiatrist for a second opinion.
