Lisinopril and Salt Substitute (potassium chloride) for leg cramps
Anyone else taking these two together? I've been reading this is not necessarily a good idea, and can cause high potassium levels.
What about small amounts? I take 30mg Lisinopril mornings, and just a few shakes of salt substitute (NoSalt or Morton Salt Substitute) in a little water at night to help prevent leg cramps.

I read something about it before. I don’t take that med, but just decided to avoid salt substitute. I actually no longer add salt to anything. To me, everything tastes quite salty.
Lisinopril can increase your potassium levels and salt sub is potassium chloride so the combination can increase your potassium levels. Get your electrolytes checked by your doctor every 6 months. The only reason to take additional potassium is if you would have low potassium. You probably don’t need to be taking the salt sub drink unless your potassium is low.
I take Magnesium for leg cramps.

1 Reaction@lenmayo I'm far from an authority on this, truly, but what I recall reading is that all electrolytes have a role in myocyte activity, and in cellular function. This means calcium, potassium, and magnesium. I feel our friend should get a formal evaluation from a physician who can look at all possible clues, even blood ferratin levels....they also matter. So, it's time for a 'workup.'

1 Reaction@gloaming I used to get up at night with severe leg cramps. I used a magnesium sulfate foam which helped. Now I just take a magnesium pill before bed.

1 ReactionTry magnesium glycinate and drink some tonic water before bed. It has helped me allot with leg cramps.
Thanks, everyone! Magnesium used to be all I needed to prevent leg cramps overnight, but since my stroke 11 months ago, I've needed both salt substitute and tonic water with quinine.
My blood test yesterday for my type 2 diabetes of 28 years included potassium which was fine, and sodium which was low. So now I'm thinking of adding a few shakes of regular salt both at meals and bedtime to further help prevent the leg muscle cramps, dehydration and loss of sleep. I'd been avoiding table salt due to blood pressure, but now I'm taking blood pressure meds.
Any more thoughts?
