Roux-en-y recommended due to severe duodenal ulcers, strictures
Gastro doc has recommended a gastric bypass for my adult daughter because her duodenum is so messed up. Too many anti-inflammatory meds. They would not restrict her stomach in any way, and will leave her duodenum "open". Has anyone had this surgery for a medical reason like this (as opposed to weight loss)? If so, was it effective? She can barely eat now, has to be on liquids or pureed food and is too thin.

I had the gastric sleeve first and ended up with a stricture because the doctor cut the sleeve too thin at the bottom part of the stomach. They used a stent to open my stomach up for 3 years... Then it returned and all of a sudden on a flight home from Mexico I could not eat or drink because my stomach stricture was back!! At this time I had lost all my weight from 289 lbs to 160 lbs. The only way to fix me was to update me to a gastric bypass. It worked beautifully! I did loose more weight and ended up too thin at 135 lbs but a year later I was able to sit around 150 healthy lbs and where I am today! This was June 2019. I wish your daughter the best of luck!!
