Role of pulmonologist/respirologist in bronchiectasis w/ NTM treatment

Posted by payette78 @payette78, May 3 3:48pm

Have bronch and m abscessus. Infectious disease doc is putting me on antibiotics for NTM but i am not getting any other treatment. Should i be? I am in Canada and haven't heard from the respirologist since he sent my sample for resistance testing.

Are you doing any airway clearance such as nebulizer or huff coughing? I see you’ve been in group a few months. Are there particular treatments you are questioning?

I have an Aerobika that doesn't seem to be doing much good. The respirologist gave it to me at our first appointment. That's it.

Ask your doctor if your not sure

You might want to call the respirologist’s office and ask for a follow up meeting.
If the aerobika isn’t working you could try another way to move mucus up from your lungs. Huff coughing and postual drainage might be something to consider.

There are good videos to view on YouTube that help demonstrate that and other with deep breathing and huff cough exercises.
All the best.

M. abscessus is not covered by the usual antibiotic protocol. You need to be on meds that target M. abscessus.

What is postual drainage?

Postural drainage can be part of our routine to help one clear the mucus from the lungs.
Some cannot do postural drainage if they have acid reflux.
There are video's that you can find on the internet if you google postural drainage for bronchiectasis. Some others, shortly, on Mayo may have further information to give you exactly where to find the information directly...web addresses etc.
