RNY gastric bypass and Vitamin B-12 injections
Curious, does anyone that had RNY gastric bypass do vitamin B-12 injections rather than B-12 pills? Do you feel it’s more effective? Do you do the 1000 mcg/ml? And how often do you inject? Once a month, twice a month, or weekly for best results? I had my surgery over 15 years ago in the United States, but am now retired and living full time in Costa Rica. The maintenance and vitamin protocol here is very different.

I had surgery 13 years ago. I have been on cyanocobalamin (B12) injection of 1000 mcg since surgery. Originally it was every 4 weeks, but after few years the provider changed to every 21 days.
Did you do injections when in US ?

1 Reaction@roch Thank you for your reply. I did not do the B12 injections in the US, but have been giving them to myself in Costa Rica. Was doing them once a month, but now starting to do them twice a month to see if I can get more energy.

2 Reactions@nova1976 wow you have done exceptionally well. So happy for you and thank you for your reply. Do you do 1000 mcg weekly?
1000 weekly
@nova1976 thank you
I had the surgery in May of 2023. I started out with B injections every two weeks. I’m a retired nurse and it is a IM shot. I now only take one every 4-6 weeks. The only problem I have now is I can’t eat bread and I’ve had to have my esophagus dilated 3 times since surgery. Good luck 😉
@lillym thank you
I had my surgery back in August and I give myself vitamin B12 shots once a month. I have had no issues. The hardest part is trying to remember to do it. Once in a while I forget so it is a couple days late. Good luck with your decision.
I had my surgery in 2005. I still get my B12 injections once a month. If I forget I feel horrible. Tired. Therefore if I forget, my body lets me know that it’s time. To keep it simple I take it the first day of the month.
