Right side only sore throat for 3 months

Posted by worriedone @worriedone, 2 days ago

52 yr old, female, 190 Ibs, 5'4". No smoking. High blood pressure only. No other health issues. NO GERD, LPR or post nasal drip. The past 3 months I have been having constant right side sore throat. I went to my family dr who said she couldn't see anything, but put me on steroids and flonase. Went to ENT who said had eustachian tube dysfunction bc my left ear was blocked and didnt seem concerned about my sore throat. Went to a 2nd ent who did a nasal endoscopy and said she didnt see anything either and put me on amoxicillin/clav for 3 wks along w azelastine nose spray. Still no comfort. Went to a 3rd ENT and he said my right tonsil looks red and irritated.I have to go for a cat scan which i did today. I still havent heard anything as it still hasnt been read yet. I can see see the pictures fr the cat scan and some of them have an exclamation point on them. My health anxiety is throught the roof!!! I am so scared! and fearing the worst! Please help what can be causing this? Other than the sore throat i do not feel any lumps outside or when I swallow. just this persistent one sided sore throat. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

A Message of Encouragement and Persistence
Dear @worriedone,
Hello. I'm sharing my own diagnostic journey because I want to emphasize the importance of persistence.
I had several nasal scopings done by different ENTs. The turning point came when I saw a University ENT. He spotted a tumor immediately.
It’s interesting to look back: when the one-sided sore throat began, my dental hygienist thought she saw a sore on that same side. The dentist looked but said he saw nothing. This was a full year before the tumor was finally found, and it was not through a CT scan.
The Misdiagnoses
My prior experiences with other doctors were frustrating and dangerous:
The CT scan incorrectly indicated I had Eagle's Syndrome.
My family doctor tried multiple antibiotics.
One ENT suggested I needed my tonsils out.
Another claimed I had arthritis.
Still another ENT even suggested I go to a psychiatrist, saying I was imagining the pain.
I kept praying because the pain was spreading to my ear and getting very bad. The false diagnosis didn't sit well with me. Following my family doctor's advice, I went to a university ENT, and that is what saved my life.
My Advice to You
I pray you do not have cancer, but please keep going to different doctors until you get answers that feel right. If I had listened to the doctors before going to the university specialist, I would likely be dead now.
This happened to me back in 2018. If you're interested, you can look up my past comments for more details.
One last thing: if you download your scan into an AI image analysis tool, it may be able to analyze it for a second opinion.
Keep your faith and listen to the nudging of the Holy Spirit.

Thank you so much for responding. I truly appreciate it. I have been a nervous wreck and my health anxiety is through the roof.

I am glad to hear your story and appreciate you sharing it with me.

My pain isnt getting anymore worse but its certainly not getting better. Sometimes its barely there at all and then boom, its back.

As for the AI tool you had suggested, where do I go about finding that? Im assuming in the play store but do have any suggestions as to what to look for?

This is absolutely terrible the sitting and waiting. I have thought about going to the e.r. I just want answers 😩

Thank you

@worriedone Just type in "google ai." Then you will see some tabs on the bottom left in the Chat Box where you can download the image and/or data sheet.
It is a great tool. Since your pain isn't getting worse, it sounds more like a tonsil stone. Best wishes to you.

I just found this, today. I am a 68 yr. old male, smoker for 40+ years. Had sore throat for about 2-3 months. Went to family doctor, who couldn't see anything, but immediately sent me to an ENT specialist. He did the scope up thru my nose, and found a lesion on epiglottis. Did a biopsy a few days later, and it came back as a malignant neuroendocrine carcinoma, very aggressive type. Not supposed to be found in the throat. Not caused by smoking. Awaiting MRI and PET scan to see if it is anywhere else in my body. Then to discuss treatment options...radiation and/or chemo. I live in Akron, Ohio, and am dealing with Summa Health doctors. Hope you find out some answers soon, and hope it is not cancer.

My sore throat pain eventually went up the right side of my neck, into my right ear. Swallowing got more painful, eventually, as well.
