Right side only sore throat for 3 months
52 yr old, female, 190 Ibs, 5'4". No smoking. High blood pressure only. No other health issues. NO GERD, LPR or post nasal drip. The past 3 months I have been having constant right side sore throat. I went to my family dr who said she couldn't see anything, but put me on steroids and flonase. Went to ENT who said had eustachian tube dysfunction bc my left ear was blocked and didnt seem concerned about my sore throat. Went to a 2nd ent who did a nasal endoscopy and said she didnt see anything either and put me on amoxicillin/clav for 3 wks along w azelastine nose spray. Still no comfort. Went to a 3rd ENT and he said my right tonsil looks red and irritated.I have to go for a cat scan which i did today. I still havent heard anything as it still hasnt been read yet. I can see see the pictures fr the cat scan and some of them have an exclamation point on them. My health anxiety is throught the roof!!! I am so scared! and fearing the worst! Please help what can be causing this? Other than the sore throat i do not feel any lumps outside or when I swallow. just this persistent one sided sore throat. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

@gangcarotid1 hi! I had an appt with my family dr today, and my results for my cat scan came back normal. Waiting to hear fr my ent on whats next. Im so nervous and scared
@worriedone Hello again. You have been in my mind. I am hoping you are okay. If you feel like talking...we are all here!
@thomason hi! Thanks for reaching back out. My cat scan results came back normal. I had an appt w my family dr yesterday and now she thinks I should get a biopsy. She said it just looks like some inflammation on my right tonsil.Just when my nerves calmed down, now they are back through the roof. I called my ENT's office and now waiting for a return call. I havent lost any weight, no lumps, masses, swelling, no swollen lymph nodes, no fever... just this sore throat on my right side.

1 Reaction@worriedone , I've been thru 2 days of head and neck MRIs here at Mayo, and they have pronounced me tumor-free in my skull base, and tumor-free on my carotid artery after July's surgery. Am over the moon with that; i don't have to return for that because the paraganglioma tumor they took off my carotid artery was never secreting hormones and it is COMPLETELY gone w no evidence of metastasis. Now, today we deal w the kidneys. Blood draw in an hour, followed by CTs of chest, abdomen, pelvis. Yesterday when I met w neurosurgeon, they were surprised a throat scoping had not been set up, with my increasingly sore throat, increasingly piercing ear pain, and increased seeming growth of that wad of gauze feeling in my throat. Trying to squeeze a scoping in b4 we fly home tomorrow. If not able to, I'll have home ENT do it; any abnormal results and I'll tell Mayo ENT and neuro.
I feel for you, waiting for results. Here, after any scans, blood draws, consults, etc., the results are generally posted to MyChart portal within 2 hours... Definitely not like home where sometimes its a wait of well over a week.

2 ReactionsI hope so thank you. My ent's office called and they reviewed my cat scan as well and said it was normal. Said if tonsil was still bothering me they referred me to an ENT surgical group, said ill need the tonsil removed. So now everything i Google means its cancerous 😩 I am soooooo scared 😢
The right side sore, have you had radiation treatments? That’s the side radiation goes thru your neck. At least in my case it was
What’s the cause ? Smoking ? HPV. In my case it was HPV and the surgeon removed the Lingual Tonsils and I started radiation and chemo therapy for 7 weeks. Just had PET scan and the results were negative for Cancer .
@wrschopp They gave me no cause, just said if it still bothers u go see an ent who does surgery. I didnt speak w my Dr directly, it was his nurse relaying the message.
