Reverse osmosis and MAC

Does dr. F say anything about using reverse osmosis as home water filtration system. I researched RO and RO with UV light and am still confused what to buy or does it even is worthy. If you use any of the system or another one to take care of MAC in the water please respond.

This document is the scientific holy grail regarding NTM and how to avoid it. It was last updated in 2021. Maybe Dr. Falkinham's successor/colleague Dr. Honda has published some new info but I have not seen anything. From what I've read RO systems do not eliminate NTM, rather it can grow in those systems due to the filters.

Hi @scoop & @lilianna The paper from 2021 is still correct. Even the addition of UV light is not enough - UV must "touch" every part of the system to be effective - and the insides of the tubing and filters don't get touched.
My brother installed and them removed RO after doing further research (he has lung issues.)

so what can be installed lets say under the sink/ on the faucet to reduce the MAC in the water? Any ideas/ suggestions. We use the city water in the faucet, I wash my equipment in the tap water, boil water to rinse my equipment and drink water from the Epic water pitcher with a nanofilter. I would like to use a better filtered water from the faucet though. Its on my mind to make my life safer. Thank you

thank you scoop, I read the material and well, it looks like the best option is the double in line ystem of two filters: one upstream and then the 2micromete pore size one. I need to find a person who would be able to do it. Thank you again.

I have RO and asked the technician who now comes twice a year to change filters, to run some bleach through the system, which he did. He was nice enough but had no inkling of how to sanitize the system. I understand the way I could get infected is if I accidentally swallowed some the wrong way. However, I could be wrong here and would like to know if it is easier than that to get MAC from just drinking water. Should I go to buying purified water for just drinking and use the RO water for cooking, etc. Also, does using saline 3X day and Acapella help prevent catching this nasty bug. I would think being diagnosed with BE a year ago and MAC being everywhere in the water, I should probably have it by now but my internist doesn't think so. I don't have any symptoms.
