Retail Therapy doesn’t work.

Does anyone here find themselves mindlessly shopping during stressful moments?

I’ve been going down “retail road”, and it’s not helpful. Of course, now and then is fine, but using it to quell the emptiness I’m experiencing…well, it only makes things worse. Especially since I’m unable to get out to return these purchases!!! Gotta laugh. 🤗❤️

Like eating, and sex, shopping can become an addiction, and financial ruin, starting off to deal with stress. The same reward systems in the brain are at work. We think it's not an addiction because it's not alcohol or drugs. Don't be fooled.

My therapy is baking, so I do put on weight sometimes. Meanwhile, when I get overly anxious or upset I lose my appetite, so everything balances out calorie-wise. 😁
Maybe if the retail therapy was for a good cause it would work?
For example, I think the photo you posted shows many formal gowns. I know some high schools have free little stores for students to come and 'shop' at for street clothes or prom wear. Maybe your items that can't be returned can be donated, then that would make you feel good. Just a thought.
All the best to you. 🦭
