Anyone is taking Repatha? Any improvement in cholesterol? Thanks

I am taking Praluent, which is a drug in the same class. I was given an either or option - either Praluent or Repatha - insurance company approved Praluent first so that is what I went on. I have been on it now 10 months and the decrease in my bad cholesterol is totally amazing. Last cholesteral test was perfect - couldn't ask for more. I am sure Repatha would have done the same. I know others who are taking Repatha with good results.

I just passed my 1 year on Repatha: total cholesterol from 187 down to 74, LDL 109 to 14. And for the first time, I'm in the normal range for both Apolipoprotein B and Lp(a). This is in addition to 80mg of statin and 10 mg ezetimibe (Zetia). No side effects or anything changed for me other than the better numbers

I have been on Repatha for 4 years. It helps. I am not seeing the tremendous drops in LDL like everyone else. My LDL runs between 85 and 100, down from a high of 198. I am statin intolerant so on Nexletol as well (Insurance does not like this combination but have a great team getting it approved at Inova). My Mother’s LDL dropped to 34 on Repatha and low dose statin.

No one seems to know why I am not seeing the tremendous decreases in LDL. The cardiologists want it at 55, but even though I eat a modified Mediterranean diet, exercise, not overweight, take meds, and negative for FH - that is as low as it goes for this body. I have high Lp(a) as well and enrolled in the Horizon trial. Doing all I can…but no one has figured out why I am a zebra…

But Life is Good. I am happy they have so many alternatives for us zebras.

Have a wonder-filled day!

Yes, I am taking it and have injected eight Total times twice a month. I could not tolerate any of the statins at all! My LDL is now down to 20 after being very high! The day, after I feel a little bit of fatigue, but not incapacitating in anyway, it is working just great for me, and injection is pretty painless!

Curious, have they checked your parathyroids and thyroids?

REPLY

Thyroid is good. I will ask my PCP about parathyroid tests. Why are you asking? Any relation to lipids?

I took 9 shots of Repatha @naiviv . It only dropped my LDL about 15% and I experienced increasingly intolerable side effects.

I have some similarities with @vaniag and am curious. Repatha works well for my dad, too. I think his LDL got as low as 8 on Repatha. My LDL goal is 55, same as yours and it is currently 88. You mention modified Mediterranean diet. Would you elaborate? What drugs are you taking? I do have FH but do not have elevated LP(a). What is the Horizon trial? Like you, I am in a place of doing all I can. It’s a good place to be.

I have been doing the Mediterranean diet for quite awhile and it has worked greatly. Lost 30 pounds since Dec 2023 and keeping my weight. Don’t eat desserts only z piece of dark chocolate now and then but not much so far. No red meat at all. Only fish, chicken and turkey. Veggies/salad/legimes/beans and fruits. No soda at all. I don’t drink or smoke. I take Levoxyl for Thyroid. My labs have been excellent. I don’t get Repatha; I asked for my husband who started it last week. I take Metformin for pre-diabetes (my parents suffered from late-onset diabetes at age 79/84. My glucose has been low thanks to diet, exercise and med. I don’t know what is the Horizon trial.
