Reoccurrence of shingles - your thoughts , re EMG trigger

Posted by ggb21 @ggb21, Jul 31, 2023

Just Two year after 1st( considerably painful shingles infection I had a reoccurrence 2days after an EMG spinal/lumba test in same area. I assumed I had antibodies, but feel that the stress of the EMG was a trigger & realize my age 86 yrs old/female compromises the immune system. Also, in mid June I completed having 2 successful elective cataract surgeries, followed by a fall 2days aft last surgery. Luckily w no major injuries except for 2 sprains w brace on left wrist & ankle & bruised ribs. Then 3 wks later EMG diagnostic test re fall followed by shingles. My internist recommends the shingrix vaccine in year.

Hi there, While I have not have shingles, I've had two cases of ocular herpes within the last years. Even while on Valtrex, the herpes would switch from one eye to another. Now I also have a primary immunodeficiency. I would suggest that your doctor measure your IgG's and subclasses to look for lowered immunity. There is treatment if those are highly depressed. At least that's a thought. I'm scare to get the vaccine but at least now it is not made from an active virus. I wish you only the best
