Red light therapy for insomnia

Posted by barbaradh @barbaradh, Apr 6 4:26pm

I read recently in a popular magazine about using red light therapy for insomnia. I wonder if anyone on the forum has tried this. The science behind it is that it boosts production of melatonin. The product is called Helight Sleep and sells for $30 on Amazon. Thanks.

I can only relate what you have posted to my own experience. I am an amateur astronomer. Every amateur astronomer I know uses red light when in the dark using their optical equipment because it preserves dark adaptation of the eyes. Many of us go several nights in a row using our scopes until 0-dark-thirty with no apparent strong urge to go to sleep or feeling more than naturally sleepy at those late hours. The finder devices to help aim the telescope uses a red dot. The lights in a tank turret or a battleship gun turret have only red and normal lighting, with red being required to be used at night. The lights in tactical control rooms inside ships have only red lights. So, I dunno......
