Red Ear Syndrome, anyone experienced it

Posted by leelou03 @leelou03, Mar 3 1:24am

Has anyone had these symptoms; one or both ears get red hot and painful. The redness will spread to my cheek or cheeks. I googled it and Red Ear Syndrome came up, I asked my doctor, he looked it up. So I have an appointment with a dermatologist. Just want to find help

Good morning, @leelou03 This conditon sounds painful for you. I’m not familar with Red Ear Syndrome so I did a little research and found a couple of informational articles that discuss RES and potential causes.

These are two links I thought were worthwhile to share.

I was able to find another member who has made reference to having Burning Ear Syndrome in these two comment links below. Hopefully @sbtheplumber1 will be able to share their experince with you to see if they’ve found any answers or relief.

Have you found anything that triggers these episodes? How long do they last?

Most of the times the red ear will just come on randomly, I can feel it coming on. Sometimes stress will bring it in. If I'm upset. It can last for hours or shorter.
Thank you for the information

Thank you @loribmt for tagging me and for sharing those links. I’m here to learn from others and provide my story in hopes of getting some help for us. @leelou03 i have noticed the red ears for several months they switch sides, burn , and itch. I spoke to my ENT whom I’ll see again in a couple weeks and he’s never heard of it. He’s going to check into it. I will also be seeing a new skin doctor March 13 maybe she will have some input and my Family Doctor March 19 . After reading the links Lori shared I will ask the doctor doing my cervical epidural Tuesday( I have several bulging disc in my neck, but no surgeon wants to touch it after I’ve had a failed back surgery April 2023). I have a cyst on my brain and severe Tinnitus and will be seeing my Neurologist in April so I will ask him if the others don’t know. I do have High Blood Pressure but haven’t noticed it being the cause, I have Sjogren’s disease I really started noticing he red ears the day after I seen my Rheumotologist ( go figure) so I didn’t get to ask her yet if it’s got anything to do with the Sjogren’s or any other Arthritis. If you have any suggestions or questions feel free to reach out to me. Unable to work over a year , 4-5 doctor appointments a week it’s great hearing other encouragements

You may be describing erythromelalgia. Pictures are always helpful for your
dermatologist.

Thank you so much for responding to my tag. We’re all “the village’ that makes this forum so great in being able to bring people together with similar issues. Sharing those experiences can be so helpful…or at least have others knowing they’re not alone with a diagnosis. 😉 I sure hope you and @leelou03 find some relief!

My gosh, you certainly have quite a few things on your plate right now. Wishing you well with your cervical epidural tomorrow. My BFF finally had her epidural for similar ‘pain in the neck’ last week after suffering for months while waiting to get it scheduled. It’s been a life saver for her! So best wishes for the same success!
Is this your first epidural treatment?

It was going to be my first neck I’ve had several in my back. Unfortunately they cancelled the epidural, I’m self paying my insurance and had to wait until my credit card cycled to pay it last Thursday. It didn’t clear soon enough for the surgery. I’ve been out of work since January of 2023 and have not had income for 4 months. I’ve been borrowing money to get by, while waiting on disability application I’m trying to get by attorney said 3 months and we’re at 7 months.
