Reclast Infusions: Side-effects & Recovery time

Posted by cindydee @cindydee, Mar 20, 2018

I just had a reclast infusion last week and have had serious side effects. I had the worst flue like aching for 5 days then my lefty arm became full of inflammation in the wrist, elbow and shoulder which caused extreme pain and I lost the ability to straighten my elbow. Ultrasound showed huge amounts of fluid throughout the arm. The right arm is now starting to have the same symptoms. The pain is excruciating. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Neither the ER doctor nor the Dr. who prescribed the procedure knew what to do to ease the symptoms. Both arms from fingertips to shoulder are swollen and neither elbow will straighten. Anyone else have adverse reactions to the reclast infusion? If yes, how long did it last?

I had afib after starting Tymlos which may or may not have been from the drug. However when I restarted it at a low dose and moved up slowly, I have had no heart problems. Please do not avoid Tymlos based on comments in this or any other forum. Try starting at two clicks for a week (the pen has 8 clicks).

@windyshores and @dgm123s Good morning hope all is well. I too started over after four months of a full dose. Now I have worked my way back up. I started at 2 clicks for three weeks and then increased by one click every two weeks. This Sunday, I will start my two weeks of 7 clicks. So far no side effects. But 7 seems to be a turning point as to whether one can tolerate 7 and then 8. Time will tell, but 6 clicks or more will still do some good and help your bones. I agree with @windyshores. I hope this helps with Tymlos. Also, I had two years of Reclast and no side effects. I would leave the chem lab to go up to the 4th floor and have my infusion and go back down to work. But in the meantime before my third infusion, I was in the middle of having a dental implant. So it is all done crown on, I had to wait 5 months. By then I never had another infusion, so never finished my five years. When I finish with Tymlos, I wonder if I can finish with Reclast or something before going on a maintenance med. Stay healthy and be safe. KLH

I just did two days of 7 clicks (I try this every two weeks or so) and the side effects are not great. At 6 I am fine. I had been doing 6667. I am torn between continuing with the 7 or just doing 7 every once in awhile.

Good evening we will see come Sunday how I due at 6. The poor tortoise is slowly catching up only if I have no side effects. Now if I do not get to sleep right away I will feel a tightening in my chest for a few short minutes. But lately, my RLS has been acting up really bad and I can not keep my legs still no matter what I do. it stopped the last two nights who knows why and my meds are not helping. So this disturbs my falling asleep fast. If you do your in the morning, I am thinking the hare gets a good night's sleep before the injection.

Have you gone on your trip yet or is it closer to Christmas? My kids are staying home for Christmas and not traveling across the country in a car with the kids and having to stop for a night halfway here. I will report at the start of next as to my progress. Between this week and next, I have 5 doc appt. all annual checkups So in the meantime stray healthy and be safe. KLH.

I wake up before 5 every morning. I am impressed that you are at 6 and if you make to that, Tymlos will work. My travel plans are uncertain right now. I was going to fly across the country on 12/31. I didn't mind Zoom holidays. Good luck with your next dose!

Dear VGball - The reason prunes work is because they contain boron. Boron helps with osteoporosis,. The big debate is about how much to take. I started taking it a year ago for osteoporosis, and ALL of my rheumatoid and osteoarthritis symptoms have vanished - and also fibromyalgia. I used to be in horrible, unbearable pain. My hands were in so much pain, I couldn't even change my sheets very well - I just lay the clean sheets on the bed. Now I can crochet and play piano again!!! Boron is clearly very beneficial - it is just not clear how much to take. The current upper level is 20 mg per day. I am taking 9-12 mg per day and I am pain free. There is a doctor named Dr. Jorge Fleches, who trained at Loma Linda (that's very good), who takes boron for his osteoporosis. He is taking 30 mg of boron per day, if I heard right. I know of some people who are taking 75-125 mg per day. Estrogen in your body becomes amplified at those high doses. I have decided to increase my daily dose to 20 mg. My osteoporosis is extremely severe at -5.7. I am very anxious to get a new DEXA scan, but it has to wait until the pandemic is over. I have no immune system and I currently have shingles in my eyes, nose, neck, shoulder and back (a stress reaction following the death of my sweet baby, a 38-year old parrot who was the love of my life). Last time I got this sick, it took me six months to recover - and I'm not even at the halfway mark. But I digress. You can buy boron in 3 mg capsules for very little money - it is cheap. You can also use Borax. There is a Facebook group about boron - and they can give you dosing information. I highly recommend the Osteoporosis Natural Remedies group on Facebook - so much great information there. But please check into boron - or eat your prunes. Oh by the way, Dr. Fleches reports he has not lost any more of his height since he started taking boron - and it has been many years.

Thank you!!!! I’m sorry about your loss and shingles 😰. I knew prunes was boron but didn’t know I could take it separately. It is in one of my osteoporosis supplements but a smaller amount.

I didn't realize it either! I am now taking about 12 mg three times a day - for osteoporosis as well as for arthritis. My scores have been getting better and I have NO arthritis pain!

@colleenyoung . There are so many supplements out there that are bad for you and not approved by the FDA. Thank you for posting the artical colleen. I sent a message to my endocrinologist about taking Boron and he hasn't gotten back to me. But I won't take anything unless it's approved my a doctor.

Colleen what did your endo say about the boron? Thanks
