Recently diagnosed with Gastroparesis
Hello I’ve recently been diagnosed with Gastroparesis and have a question please. I read about a lot of you with g-tubes and implants. Can I ask how long did it take you to get to that point? I’m very scared to think this happens to most at some point.

Hello. I was also recently diagnosed with GP. I was also fearful after reading the warnings on that med. But after talking to my dtr who is a NP I have started it. There is no guarantee of course but she told me getting Parkinson’s from it was very rare. We all have to make our own decisions though. Best of luck to you.
Is there anything to help the nausea after eating anything, and pain under right ribs. I have had gal bladder checked, done diet, taken the new med Motegrity and am allergic to it. Now have symptoms of dumping syndrome as well. Didn't know you could have both, quality of life not good.

4 ReactionsHello @hollie1955 and welcome to Connect. I can certainly understand why you say, "...quality of life not good." As I see your post indicates that you had a full Nissan 19 years ago, you might find it helpful to post this question in a relatively new discussion group on Connect. Here is the link:

I see from your post that you have already "...done diet," however, as you post with others who have had surgery and then have the symptoms you've experienced, you might find some helpful suggestions. There are posts in that discussion that deal specifically with "dumping syndrome."
In addition, here is a link to posts that discuss Gastroparesis,
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/digestive-gastrointestinal-problems/?search=Gastroparesis#discussion-listview
Have you been able to obtain a referral to a registered dietican at your hospital? This was very helpful to me after three surgeries on the upper digestive tract. I would encourage you to ask for a referral if you have done so already.
Do your best not to get discouraged; finding an answer to long-term health problems takes time, but it is worth the investment. Will you continue to post as you read the discussions listed above and share your progress?

2 ReactionsHaving awful stomach issues such as burning pain in stomach, diarrhea, gas, weakness, and overall feeling terrible every day. Have been diagnosed with gastroparisis and am on gastroparisis diet, Seems like if I eat any solid food I suffer for 2 or 3 days, Only medication I take for stomach is nexium twice per day.
My daughter has had this since 2012. You will have to learn what you can and cannot eat. There is no easy fix. You will learn to manage it. Have you had a stomach emptying test which would be definitive proof? If not, seek another opinion.
Had a stomach emptying test a year and a half ago at V,A, hospital and was diagnosed with mild gastroparisis, It certainly does not feel mild anymore, Stomach is in distress every day, especially in morning, Am seeing civilian Gastro doctor now who will not give me Reglan which is only medication approved by F,D,A, Thank you for your response,
Be careful with Reglan- can have serious and permanent side effects. My daughter takes a med called motillion, has to get from Canada, but prescribed by USA docs. And approved in Europe but not USA. She will not use Reglan. There are books that should help you choose foods, and you need to learn your own tolerances.
My daughter was diagnosed after multiple instances of vomiting black, undigested stomach contents. She does manage ok now and I hope you will too.

2 ReactionsReglan is dangerous. Ask about motillion. I agree with your doc.
I agree with Reglan being dangerous. I was in it for 5 weeks- I was very naive and just took it after a doctor gave it to me after being diagnosed with Gastroparesis in the hospital. After 5 weeks I started getting side effects including racing heartbeat, blurry vision and ticks in my arms and legs that have thankfully gone away. Getting off it was rough too because I was having withdrawal symptoms like panic attacks. Nasty stuff!
Ask about motillion. It will help your stomach to empty. I dont think it has side effects
