Recently diagnosed with Gastroparesis

Posted by lusi0610 @lusi0610, Jul 6, 2024

Hello I’ve recently been diagnosed with Gastroparesis and have a question please. I read about a lot of you with g-tubes and implants. Can I ask how long did it take you to get to that point? I’m very scared to think this happens to most at some point.

I have gastroparisis and after multiple tests the Dr put me on a powder mix , Colesteramine, twice daily. No matter what I eat I have diarrhea 20 to 30 minutes later. I have lost 22 lbs in 6 months and weigh 100 lbs. I am scared that I will keep loosing weight and end up in a hospital. I feel fine otherwise. My normal weight was 125 . I can't eat a large amount of food as I had bariatric surgery 7yrs ago and it was successful. I need help to gain weight.

@jojo442 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'm sorry to hear about the diarrhea and weight loss.

Did the gastroenterologist who diagnosed you or your bariatric surgeon have any tips for you to get your weight back to where you prefer it?

To gain weight back I got heavy calorie yogurt plus meal replacement drinks with added calories. I also have a cookie every morning with my tea mid morning. I am on a new drug called Metoclopramide which is a short term drug but it has really helped me feel normal again. It is for Gastroparesis which I havent been officially niagnosed with but it works great for me.

The Dr just told me to eat more small meals with more protein. I have done that but I have a BM 20 minutes after I eat no matter what I eat or how much.

I can't tolerate yogurt or any dairy either. I use Lactaid milk with cereal. Pro biotics don't agree with me either. It just doesn't matter what I eat.

@jojo442 are u aware of the products containing glyphosate (most cereals unless they're organic)? I'm convinced glyph.is ruining many ppl digestive tract but Docs are not aware of this yet. RFKjr may publicize this info further. I hope. (p.s. All wheat is contaminated w/glyphosate except organic wheat)

I was not aware of this. I usually don't eat cereal but I am trying to eat anything that will help me gain my weight back.
