Recent changes to Mayo Clinic patient portal

Posted by fre6821 @fre6821, May 8, 2023

I cannot see my upcoming appointments. I hate this new change. It is not user friendly to older patients. I want an option to return to the old one. At least I could figure it out. It’s like Mayo doesn’t want you to see your own info.

Hi @fre6821 Well, as a fellow Mayo patient, you sparked my interest so I ducked into my patient portal. The format has changed but your appointments are the first thing that pop up on the home page.

Mine says, “Good Afternoon, Lori. You have 2 future appointments.”

Under the greeting it shows only the first appointment on the screen.

However, under there is a blue line that says, All Appointments.
When I clicked that blue link, both appointments are listed just as before in the familiar little boxes with all the information for location, time, ability to save to my calendar, etc.

A hint is to always click the little HOUSE icon to return to the Home Page where you’ll find all the familiar subjects such as
Test Results
Clinician Notes/After Visit Summaries
Billing
Medications and Prescriptions
Messages
Covid & Vaccinations

Another cool feature I just discovered that wasn’t there before is that I can look at all my past appointment boxes! Click on the blue line that says Appointments. Then look at the top menu where it gives options for past appointments.

I remember the last change to the portal a few years ago. It just takes us a little time but I think you’ll get used to this one with a little more sleuthing. Is there anything in particular I can help you with?

@fre6821, Thank you for your feedback. I think @loribmt offered and is offering to help you navigate around the newly designed portal and to help you find what you're looking for in the short term.

It's always challenging when websites change. Even when the improvement may be for the better, it can take some getting used to. These updates to the portal were made with patient input and testers. But the good news is that the portal team continues to tweak the design based on your feedback.

I encourage you to share your thoughts with the team directly on the Patient Portal.
1. Go to the Patient Portal https://onlineservices.mayoclinic.org/patientportal.
2. Click Feedback on the right side on any page. On mobile go to your account and click Support then Send App Feedback.
3. Submit the form.

If you still need help using the portal, click Get Help.

IMHO the new version is less intuitive than the previous one.
Wondering what the issues were with the old version that prompted the rebuild.

I sympathize.
Note also that accessing the Portal on your computer vs. accessing with the Mayo app on your phone is a bit different.
On the phone look at the bottom for appointments, messages and health records

There may be a setting I missed but some of the links/options overlap on my iphone. As a former software test manager I will become accustomed but it is certainly not as clean as the former platform. Compiling feedback to offer. Thank you for some of the hints.

Anyone else having difficulty logging in now and accessing appointments, etc? I was just in there and could not view a new appointment. I have signed out and back in, re-started my phone and cannot even get into the portal.

I wonder if the system is being updated. I'll check.

In the meantime, @johnbishop @loribmt @jenniferhunter, if you're online at the moment would you mind trying to login to the patient portal and see if it is working for you?

It's going under maintenance but should be done. This was the message at the top: The patient portal will undergo planned maintenance between 8:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. CT on Monday May 15th. Thank you for understanding.
I logged in but it took about fifteen seconds to think about it.

Thanks @hrhwilliam.
@jennifer0726, looks like updating maintenance is complete. Can you log on to the portal now?

@colleenyoung Yes, I am able to log into the patient portal at mayoclinic.org Now that I am logged in, there is a message that the patient online services is currently unavailable on mobile. Just for fun, I pulled up some test results and the reports come up, but the image viewer to see X-rays and MRIs is not working. It tried for awhile with a twirling circle and times out. I also opened up past appointments of the old ones going back to 2016 and theye dopn't have any information in them. Some as listed as historical or RST conversion encounter. It really only tells you a date and what provider you saw there. There are no notes about my spine surgery in 2016. It seems they have moved the clinical notes under the Health Record tab and I can access them there.
