Radiation & ADT no real problem. Kidney stone lithotripsy terrible
Diagnosed in August 2024 Gleason 9. Started Orgovyx immediately. Then 28 sessions of IMRT, finished April 2025. Colonoscopy January 2026, unremarkable. Latest PSA March 2026 less than 0.04, testosterone less than 1. Taken off Orgovyx April 10, 2026, after 20 months. Now...standard shock wave lithotripsy April 23, 2026 to remove kidney stones. Massive complications, unbearable pain because not all the stones were blasted and they began piling on top of each other. Underwent laser lithotripsy on my birthdate April 28th, 2026. Pain is significantly diminished and apparently no stones remain. Should have done laser lithotripsy at the beginning? Yep. Have an appointment with radiation oncologist May 12th. He'll probably order a new PSA and testosterone test. Hoping for good results.

Wondering if the trauma of two lithotripsies in five days can affect PSA or other prostate variables.

1 ReactionHi,
Johny’s comment makes you think. I would talk to your Doctor or just delay the blood tests for a few weeks to let you heal up. Don’t need any false reports based on your kidney stone trama.

I wonder if ADT is causing kidney damage. A friend who is under treatment has had major kidney and kidney stone problems since starting ADT about 3 years ago.
@pesquallie
If you believe what’s on the Internet they say it’s possible. Does not sound like there is positive proof but monitoring your kidney markers with your routine blood test might not be a bad idea if you on ADT.

@clevelandguy I was told to take a 600mg calcium twice a day and a vid D once a day by oncologist to combat the bone loss caused by ADT. I have wondered if all the extra calcium will translate into kidney stones? NOT saying it will, but I am wondering? My baseline DEXA scan showed me with osteoporosis. Gotta watch this if you are on ADT long term.

1 ReactionHi,
A buddy of mine who suffers from Kidney stones had his doctor tell him to take one Tums I think every other day. From what he was telling me is that the calcium binds with the oxalate in the digestive tract so it does not cause kidney stones. I guess oxalate/calcium excreted through the kidneys is what causes the stones to form.

4 ReactionsI would wait about 6 weeks for new PSA - early June...let everything settle a bit. I suspect you pro had a least mild UTI , which would cause some PSA rise...however, you do what your doc advises.
I too have suffered from kidney stones over the yrs...they are no fun and hurt way more than PC ( at least at first)
Good luck !

Thanks for the support!

I wonder if the calcium loss from the bones (due to ADT) ends up as calcification if the arteries.
@sushilkbirla
Wow! I just did some research about that after you posted it. It appears that it can possibly cause calcification in the arteries.
