Question about eyesight issues and pre-diabetes.

Posted by mcmurf2 @mcmurf2, Sep 19, 2019

I have been having problems with blurred vision and just a basic decrease in my vision. I have been to the eye Dr. She said nothing has changed. My last blood test from my psych showed my blood work resulted in a pre diabetic level. I had a wellness physical ( with my primary a few months ago and nothing was said about diabetes. my question is; can your eyes actually be effected by pre diabetes and not show signs at the eye Dr??? Has anybody had experience with this during a pre diabetes event?

I have lost 40 + lbs, I have had a better diet this summer too. ( I am 5’6″ and currently at 178) ( but my endo system is also messed up). I find it hard to exercise due to a lump of physical issues. So, don’t know what else I can do. But,, my main concern is my eye sight. IF my eye dr said nothing has changed,,, what is my next step???

my a1c is 5.8. , this is within her range .. her top range is 6.2. … … ………….

@mcmurf2 Your A1C is definitely within range. The American Diabetes Assn. says 7.0, and the American Endocrinologists say 6.0. So you are below both of those groups' numbers for calling Diabetes. I know many diabetics who would celebrate if they had your number. The lowest I have been is 5.9, but the last time I went for check it was 6.5. It goes up and down and I check my blood to try to stay with the monitor ranges. Since your blood is really good, I imagine the Mayo doctors will recheck and move on to other areas. It won't be long before you see the Mayo professionals. I hope they will find the problem and be able to solve it. Do you have any other symptoms besides blurred vision? Do you have pain?

well,, yes,, pain,, but it is hard to figure out what is related to a bad fall I had a year ago ( blown discs, torn shoulder and back issues),,, and what is not 'normal' pain for that injury. I know my thyroid can mess with pain as well. There is just so much going on and so many different systems involved, I am having a hard time knowing what is from what issue. I have also suffered hair loss and of course, the wt loss, ( which I'm not complaining about..ha). Tired, not actually dizzy,, but ….um,,, funny feeling. can't explain it. Now, that could be diabetes or thyroid. I have been taken off my thyroid medicine due to it jumping into hyper mode. So, until I see my endo, I will not know if I went back to the other extreme or if this is diabetes. Too many things similar for 2 different issues. sigh……………..

@mcmurf2 You have a number of issues, and I hope that the Mayo doctors can put your puzzle together and find the piece you need to gain relief. It seems that you have done all the right things for what you know, and I think now it's a waiting game until you get to Mayo and see the doctors for your problems and can know what is causing your discomfort and what you have to do deal with it. You don't have too much longer to wait, and that's good. Maybe you can make some notes of questions you want to ask so that you tell the ones in charge the whole story; don't leave anything out. Can you keep a journal of sorts for each day?
Any time you want to talk, post and I will get your message as will others who can offer suggestions too.

hi! yes.. I do have a sheet of questions. ( it is growing..ha). thank you for the suggestion of the diary. There is just so much. I hope the Mayo drs don't get frustrated with me.ha I watched a video on here a couple weeks ago pertaining to another of my issues.. so,, THAT made me have a lot of questions. Now, I have questions about the pre-diabetes vs thyroid. I"m sure my endo will have some answers for me but I am frustrated and a bit angry it has taken all summer to get in and get checked. It has been a long wasted summer.. sigh…..

@mcmurf2 I am glad you have questions, and if you keep a journal/diary, that may help the doctors too. Don't look at the summer as wasted. I think some people have to wait longer than that, but everything I've read says it is worth the wait. The appointment with your endo may give you some answers or may give you more questions to ask. Just keep focused on getting answers and feeling better; that's important.Besides you getting answers, I'll be interested in knowing what all is involved too. I know we don't look forward to doctors' visits, but I think you will be glad to get some answers won't you?
