What supplements help Osteopenia, Osteoporosis?
Hi, I am a new member here and wanted to find out if anyone has used AlgaeCal Plus & Strontium Citrate for Osteopenia? I have had this condition for 10 years now plus five years with Osteoarthritis of the hip which I am hoping will help not only my hip but the DEXA scan came up with Osteopenia scores.

It is my understanding that red algae is harvested from beaches in South America. So the purity is in the hands of those who gather, process (& hopefully test) each batch. Given the contamination of many beaches by human & industrial waste, it gives me a concern.

I know. What's soil or waters aren't contaminated, right? We either have to be chemists or hire some to test things or just hope for the best 🤔.

Has anyone tried Agaecal Plus with Strontium for this? Or Dr Livingood, Bone Health? Anyone tried the vibrator?
@der, there are a number of active discussions in the group about various supplements and non-medication treatment for osteoporosis. I thought members might find it helpful for me to list an inventory of them here:

Is anyone taking strontium for osteoporosis? Any post DXA data?
@pp27va Hello - I don't have experience with strontium myself, but I have had unintended side effects from other supplements, so I am always cautious about trying them. I did a little searching to try to find some information for you.
I would like to point you to at least one previous discussion here about using strontium for osteoporosis.

Here is an article about the potential "downside" of strontium and DXA scans:

Are you hoping to use strontium as a supplement to avoid prescription drugs for osteoporosis?

Thank you. I am currently taking Evista, and as this does not actually generate new bone, only prevents bone loss, was hoping to find something to help make new bone.
Strontium will make your bones look denser on the DEXA than they are, because it is a denser mineral than calcium.
For bone-building, I am doing Tymlos, which has a pen that allows adjusting the dose. So I started low and moved up to minimize side effects. Tymlos also improves bone quality, I have beent old.
Forteo and Evenity also build bone. I do not know your DEXA or fracture situation or what your insurance covers but I have read that strontium is slower and gentler, may have cardiovascualr side effects (not sure if that is from the ranelate). If you need help more quickly you could consider those meds if insurance covers them. Tymlos also has a patient assistance program.
I am A 77 her+ cancer survivor. I am on anastrozole & will be for about 2 & a half more years. My latest dexa scan showed my osteoporosis has worsened. I do Not want to go back on hormone replacement or prolia. A friend has been on strontrine citrate & super K w good results for her osteoporosis. Just wondering
