I’m being diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. I’m waiting on catheters Right and left to be done to confirm their diagnosis. What is the treatment options or surgical procedures?

Hi @mbarrons60 Welcome to Connect. I am sorry you have the need to make this post. It must be overwhelming.
Here is some good information about pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH): https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pulmonary-hypertension/symptoms-causes/syc-20350697

What symptoms are you currently experiencing? When are your cath procedures scheduled?
I was diagnosed in Sept via Echo - then had right heart catch which is Gold standard for diagnosis. Score lower than on Echo. Mine is mild - no symptoms yet except occasional out of breath but an. 84. Treating me with silently which is viagra.
Hope yours is mild as well!
Corrections!
….am 84.
Sildenafil which is Viagra.
My pulse ox was always in the 80’s. My mind was foggy all of the time. I am dizzy and weak. I’m now on 3L of oxygen 24/7.
I’m also very out of breath doing anything. Just walking around the house causes it. The oxygen doesn’t help with the shortness of breath.
I forgot to mention I’m 64.
When will you have your cath procedures @mbarrons60 ?
I don’t know. My insurance denied the procedures and we had to appeal. They just approved it, but still having trouble getting the approval letter for the cardiologist. They can’t schedule it until they have the paperwork. Very frustrating!
Happy to find someone else on here taking sildenafil which I just started. Have you had any side effects from the med? Has it helped you being less out of breath?
I am 81 and I have been diagnosed by two echos six months apart. Both said “mild” pressure (46 and 41). Three cardiologists said I did not need a right heart cath procedure since pressure is mild but the last one agreed to give me a trial on the sildenafil to see if it helps my shortness of breath issue. (Insurance won’t pay for it without the procedure!).
I have been very scared about this diagnosis because everything I read says early treatment is important so I kind of pressed for the medication. The pulmonologist I first saw about the echo findings ordered oxygen which I did NOT need and sent back (o2 is always in the 90’s when on the treadmill). He also ordered a RHC procedure but acted like it was optimal. It was subsequently cancelled so didn’t get it. It was going to be a couple months after my ablation and I wanted to recover well from that first.
Optional
No side effects yet from sildenafil.
I don't have too much trouble with shortness of breath - unless walking uphill or too fast. Mine mild also - much lower numbers result from righ heart cath.
Surprised your pulmonary doc prescribed oxygen!
You are right - aggressive early rx very important.
I also had sleep study as part of eval and have mild sleep apnea - now on CPAP. Ugh!
