Prostate damage after too vigorous massage?

Posted by mountainfairy74 @mountainfairy74, May 29, 2023

Good morning.

I am a 48-year old man. About a week ago I massaged my prostate too vigorously with a toy. In the evening I had pain and the sensation that my erections were not as strong, or of lack of sensitivity in the perineal area. I have had some moderate pain in the past week, in the prostate as well as the area going up (suppose epidydimis) and scrotum. Really, modest pain. No urinary symptoms, but some burning in the prostate itself at times after I pee. I did manage to masturbate the day after a couple of times, achieving a satisfying erection. Sperm was clear. But the pain is persisting, even though it is mild. I have a progress history of prostate inflammation, three years ago, which was deemed to be non-bacterial. Tomorrow I will be seeing a urologist to figure out whether this is bacterial or non-bacterial. But I am freaking out about the possibility that one might damage the erectile nerves through prostate massage, about which I found some horror stories online.I thought the worst could happen was a bit of inflammation. A week later I am still not having spontaneous erections, and "morning wood" is there but weaker than usual. I am a 4-times a night wood person...

So my question is:

(1) Could this apparent erection problem due to the inflammation and/or anxiety? Should it go away once the problem subsides?

(2) What are the actual risks of damage to erectile nerves through prostate massage? And can it be reversed?

Thank you.

Hi, just saw this now...you probably saw the urologist today. How did it go? Are they also thinking anxiety? And as you know erectile nerve damage is usually from prostate surgery. Couple of links below for you that you may have seen...the last one is on a drug in development to regenerate the erectile nerves. Hoping for the best for you.

Thank you for the reply! The urologist ruled out nerve damage. He says it just can't happen with a sex toy, as the nerves are too deep. So the stories I've read online must be exaggerated (about nerve damage, it was only one, actually). What must have happened is that the vigorous massage inflamed the prostate. And then anxiety did the rest. My erections have returned, even though they are a bit painful and I have less sex drive, but that is compatible with a prostatitis. I am awaiting results of a semen culture test to figure out whether it's inflammatory or bacterial. In the former case, I'll just have to wait for it to sort itself out... In any case, it's a lesson learned. Again, thank you for the response.

hi there, I'm guy who had something similar happen after some play with a dildo...wasn't warmed up properly and felt some pain upon entry. I don't think I was very deep but not sure. toy was not extreme in size...either way my sensations down there, ass, balls, dick haven't been the same since. feels like something is stepping on those nerves, making them dull. erections are fine, it's just the sensations and thus my sex drive have taken a nose dive. this is six months running. i have pretty strong health anxiety at times and this has certainly fallen kicked that into overdrive. i'm working on not catastrophizing and being positive and moving forward in other ways in my life. but ya the physical side of this also feels strong. total mystery and only really found one account that is similar to mine and who knows what actually happened to that person.

hope you are feeling 100 percent better
