Prolia treatment for osteoporosis

Posted by Veruska @veriska, Mar 7, 2017

I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

@quiteachiver75 I AM HAVING MY THIRD PROLIA THIS WEEK HAD NO SIDE EFFECTS

Has anyone been on Reclast? How was is for you?

I was on Reclast for six years, that was the max allowed then. I didn’t have any side effects at all. During that time my bone scans remained the same; at least there was no decline. Now after three years of no meds at all I will be seeing an Endocrinologist in early May. Hopefully there will be no decline. I am positive because I had two ankle injuries last year with no bone breaks.

Glad to hear that. Did you change your diet or exercise?

I HAVE BEEN ON PROLIA FOR A YEAR WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SIDE EFFECTS….PLUS I AM TAKING CARE OF MY HUSBAND WHO HAS ALS…..WE ARE BOTH IN OUR 80'S……I THINK PROLIA SURELY HELPS SOMEONE WITH POOR BONE DENSITY…………JAN

I, too, need to make that decision in the next week. Prolia or Reclast? Fosamax , after 2 years, resulted in gastritis. Any advice is appreciated.

To date I have had 3 Prolia injections. I have had no negative effects. Since it is expensive it is best if you check with your insurance people to verify that they will cover the cost.

There is a copay card thru Prolia, check into this.

I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis in about 2001. I tried Fosamax. I tried another similar drug from the same family which left my kidney disease worse. My nephrologist suggested I stop and I did. I am -4.5 in my hip and -4 in my spine. Prolia was suggested numerous times by my endocrinologist but I have refused. I am highly sensitive to drugs. 3 drugs have sent me to cardiac ER care for a week each. All with life-threatening BP numbers – 260/130. One was Livalo, a cholesterol drug! My endocrinologist approved physical therapy for resistance training. I have been doing it for over 2 years. Last year when I had my bone density scan, it had stopped the bone loss in my spine. Not my hip. I am headed to Mayo to try and determine how my body metabolizes certain drugs. I will let you know what I find out. End of May.

Hi All. I have been on Prolia for almost 2 years and have severe osteoporosis. I fell and fractured my left hip in April of 2016 and recovered from that. Last August I started experiencing intermittent pain in my left femur which has gotten progressively worse. I am now taking Gabapentin and am going to see a pain specialist. Has anyone else experienced severe pain like this from prolia? I have scoliosis and spinal stenosis and the pain in my lower back has gotten a lot worse since being on prolia.

I don't know if its coincidental but my chronic back pain has worsened over the last year. In addition, my arthritis in my hips is also worse. I started Prolia injections one year ago, May 2018. Returning to osteo clinic for f/u bone density and third injection. Will discuss with endocrinologist. Will also see if Prolia has increased my bone density.

I hope it works for you! Did nothing for me in 5 years. Encronoigist has me on Tymolos shots. I hope they work.

I'll definitely update on my mom after every shot… 6 weeks now and no side effects to date:) Good luck with your decision. It is hard.

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place. I posted about a year ago to do with my mom and Prolia. She has had another two shots with no side effects! She may be due for a bone density scan – I have to ask.
