I'm having problems with my Aerobika: What are your solutions?

Posted by terryb1 @128128terry11t, Nov 23, 2017

I am having a great deal of difficulty with fluttering and my aerobika. I am having trouble getting it to flutter upon exhale. Is there anyone else who is experiencing this and if so, what are the solutions? I keep having to hit the aerobika to get it to flutter. Thank you. Terry

I bought it from Save Rite Medical, but they referred me to Monaghan Medical, the manufacturer or distributor. I ordered March 6th and just used it 1-2x. Customer service was great. I expected a little replacement filter, but they’re sending me a new Aerobika. The lot number is 240565.

Ironically, I’d called them about an Aeroeclipse just 4-6 weeks ago and they’d sent a new one. I felt bad calling again, esp since my Omron compressor may not be strong enough for Aeroeclipse. It has 16 psi and Aeroeclipse requires 15. I had to buy one while I waited for replacement to come so haven’t opened Aeroeclipse.

I bought a new Aerobika on 3/6/24 and received it a couple days ago. It was fine yesterday and I cleaned per routine-hot (boiling) soapy water and rinsed in hot water. It didn’t work today and I could see the little green filter on posterior side was not closing completely, leaving a little open half moon for a second. I called Monaghan and when I gave her the lot number, she said, “ That's what I thought.” She said she had to alert team that this lot seemed to have issues. They are sending a replacement. If you’re having trouble, call them.

I see no Lot # on the device itself and the package it came in is long gone. Where would a lot# be located?

I had the same issue with my acapella and the company I bought it from (carewell) replaced it. I didn’t have to give them any lot # or return the faulty one. Hope you can get yours replaced without a problem.

I found the Lot #. It is on the bottom of the aerobika. It is just difficult to see because it is all white like the device.

It is on the bottom and is white letters on white-hard to see. I had to tilt mine different ways in the light and at the correct angle, it was easy to see.

Unfortunately, the new lot number’s little valve on top piece is blowing out, too, but a different side. I put my year old top on the new bottom and it’s working.

Just a thought: I have been using my Aerobika for 5 months without any problems. Initially I talked to Monaghan's customer service and the rep stressed the important of cleaning & rinsing with distilled water rather than tap water. Even if you demoralize with vinegar, tap water decreases the lifespan of the device. It's a pain to haul those gallon jugs home but most likely worth the trouble.

Do they recommend boiling the Aerobika along with the nebulizer cup or do they say there is no need to sterilize?
My understanding is that boiling equipment or sterilizing in some models of baby bottle sterilizers is the best way to kill the NTM.

@kathyhg It depends on which "they" you ask. Some here who are stable clean everyday with sterilization weekly. Others clean/sterilize daily. Really depends on your comfort level and disease state. Checking your doctor always a good idea.

The Aerobika manufacturer Monaghan says:
The approved cleaning methods are: soap and water or top rack dishwasher.

The approved disinfection methods are: boiling for 5 minutes, 70% isopropyl alcohol soak for 5 minutes, 3% Hydrogen Peroxide soak for 30 minutes, or microwave steam bag (according to manufacturer’s instructions).

Depends on what nebulizer you use. For PARI Sprint LC, directions say:
Cleaning the nebulizer after each treatment is not enough---you must regularly disinfect or sterilize the nebulizer between treatments to prevent serious or fatal illness caused by contamination of the nebulizer.

I'm in the daily clean/sterilize camp as I want the stuff off my kitchen counter plus I'm a bit risk averse. I use a baby bottle sterilizer that was recommended here, the Bololo, and have been happy with it.
