Problems after chlamydia treatment

Posted by sparky1080 @sparky1080, Jul 24, 2021

I was infected with chlamydia at the end of January this year, and was tested mid-March and finished treatment early April (10 days of doxycycline).

I didn’t really have any symptoms besides some thicker discharge which went away, so I wasn’t really aware that I was infected.

Ever since being treated I’m experiencing weird symptoms, yet my tests are always negative.

I had Weird discharge (thick cervical mucus) and blood on may 7 (after finishing antibiotics at the beginning of April), which was the same day I tested again to ensure the infection was gone, test was negative.

I’ve been experiencing the following symptoms:

1. Lower abdominal pain by uterus /bladder, feels inflamed, sometimes feels like stabbing, urethra pain, also had some lower back pain on the left

2. Pain and itch inside on the left

3. Pain in muscle around pubic bone/groin - hurts when I exercise, sometimes when walking

4. Lack of vaginal discharge, some improvement with gynoflor (at one point it was very dry, small chunks)

I keep getting pelvic exams and ultrasounds and the doctor keep saying everything is fine. I was prescribed gynoflor and fluomizin as she thought maybe it was irritation from yeast after the antibiotics.

I went to another doctor and he did an ultrasound and found fluid in my cul de sac behind Uterus, either from the infection or a ruptured cyst and that it could be causing the pain. He also said my body should absorb it . But this doesn’t explain all of the symptoms.

My Period has been shorter lately (may and June) only 3 days long, usually 4/5.

I’m really worried and getting extremely anxious and crying every day over this. I just want it to go away. If anyone has any advice or has had something similar happen it would be great to hear from you.

Hey, well Im going on month 8 with these symptoms:( your not alone i also speak to another girl on a weekly basis that i met from this site (we just email eachother to talk about out feelings and symptoms) but as far as updates recently got a pelvic ultrasound sound, everything came back normal. I went to see a specialist gyno/urologist 2 weeks ago she basically told me she doesn’t think it’s vaginal related, since all tests come back normal. she thinks its a skin issue (even though i feel it in my nerves) but she prescribed me an ointment Nystatin and triamcinolone. im supposed to use it for a month, so im hoping this works because im so ovet this. I’ve become so depressed, and hopeless myself

Also… can you somehow text me to send your email so we can be in touch?
Did you or some girls that are in same situation have problems with joints? Pain and swelling hand joints?

Hi! Thank you for your answer. You’re the first one who I met that have same issue like me. In some point I thought that this is happening only to me.
I’ve also used Nystatin it is antifugal medicine but it didn’t help me because in my bacteriological test there aren’t positive fungi or yeast.
But let me know, maybe it will work with you.
I’m dealing with this over a year and doctors are telling me that everything is fine but I can’t be relaxed because every time when I’m not using medicine or something my symptoms gets worse: I feel burning and itching.
Did you try using doxycycline again, after chlamydia treatment? And if you did, for how long did you use it?
What are your symptoms? What is color of vaginal discharge?
I somehow think that this chlamydia never gone away in total and that she is causing these symptoms because with her all problems started.

No, it definitely not just you. If I’ve learned something from this website thread is that Im not crazy and a lot of women are dealing with this. All Drs seem to he clueless:( I’ve gone to different drs and at least 20 appointments. It’s truly frustrating because Same all problems started when i got chlamydia. Before that I had never had any issues down there. And now it’s a daily thing.

I’ve been following this thread for awhile before I created an account to comment. I also
Contracted chlymida at the end of December got treated mid January and had negative test results in end of March/April. Things have not felt the same
For me since contracting and I’m
Always paranoid I have it still.
I deal with pelvic pain, bloating, strange discharge sometimes but no scent at least, and this strange raw feeling down in my vagina area.
I am still sexually active and don’t find it to be painful. I felt fine for a few months but feel like I have a flare up of this uncomfortable feeling currently in august. It’s interesting to see how many females have been feeling Exactly the same on this thread without explanation. I’ve been taking a women’s probiotic and trying to consume a lot of water I am about to throw in a cranberry vitamin pill again as I do find it to ease symptoms. I am sick and tired of the paranoia I feel daily and I still have chlymida / or am catching it all the time when I get these bizzare flare ups.

To everyone on here, the only thing that seems to be working personally for me is an ointment prescribed by my gyno called nystatin- triamcinolone. I’ve been using it for about 2 months now. I still deal with mild stings but it’s seems like this ointment is a treatment. It’s not going to make it disappear from 1 day to the next. I’ve been pretty consistent with it i started applying it on twice a day but now Im down to 1 time a day or everyother day . Along with taking oral vaginal pro biotics every night. Hope this information helps because Just like a lot of you guys i was feeling helpless and thought this was never going to get better. But Im finally starting to feel better.

Go to a gyno/clinic and ask them to prescribe nystatin- triamcinolone. It’s the only thing that seems to be helping me. I’ve been using this ointment for 2 months now.

I just wanted to add my story. 1/2020 I was infected and I was treated in March after convincing myself it was a UTI that I tried to battle myself. It started to get pretty painful but was much more painful after I was treated, I was treated again for PID which they didn’t say I had, no one said it. Treated again for 21 days. I was tested 20 times and no one could tell me what was going on, was referred to specialists for all sorts of symptoms: pubic bone pain, I couldn’t even walk most days for a while the pain and heaviness in my uterus was so bad, the urethra pain was present from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep and this went on for months and months. It started to resolve regularly about 6 months after treatment. It was totally gone after a year but I had also gotten pregnant and sometimes I think that’s what really ended my symptoms. The pain went away with time. It was a good opportunity to learn about womb health but other than that it was the worst time of my life and it was so scary. If you’re going through this keep trying to be your healthiest mentally and emotionally as well. I pray for everyone struggling with this maddening Chlamydia post treatment stuff, it’s so hard and doctors can’t tell you anything. Hang in there!

What a great testament, and thank you for sharing. I definitely had the worst yr of my life mentally and physically because of this. And i dont talk about with anyone because i feel ashamed (std stigma sucks) but Im thankful for this thread that also spreads awareness and it made me feel like i was crazy. Since i did get the “maybe it’s just in your head” from 1 gyno. And Im glad to know that it went away for you. Praying my symptoms will be completely gone 1 day🙏🏼

Yes I’m feeling this way right now. I read it’s called reactive arthritis due to infection of Chlamydia. Could last anywhere from weeks to a year. I was diagnosed 8/10/23 and the joint pain started to happen to me around 9/7/23 starting in my right buttock all the way to my hands. The buttock pain has finally stopped but I still feel it in my fingers. It makes me depressed that I have to even experience any of this.

Women not wanting anything to do with me and making my dating life so hard. I’ve just been spiraling down and have been feeling hopeless, but hearing all of you talk and come together as a group has brought positivity and energy to me again.

Thank you for being awesome and strong cause I forsure have had trouble with this all.
If any of you have gotten better or found a way to deal with this please help me 🙁
Haven’t been able to talk to anyone about this with out feeling gross and sad.

Is there a light at the end of this nightmare? I don’t understand how they say chlamydia is treatable. Why are so many people having complications and there is no answers.
Caught my chlamydia very quickly within 1.5 months. I got on 7 day 100mg doxy. Felt better until I didn’t. I knew my period was coming but the cramps started two days early with no blood and then had brown sludge for over 10 days. I felt like death and the cramps were unbearable. That’s when I learned that chlamydia is not just chlamydia and the dominos begin. I discover it’s most likely PID even though I haven’t had sex and I caught it early… I got a shot of antibiotics flagyl and 14 days of doxy. I feel better but not really. I start noticing that taking flagyl it’s giving me anxiety and on day 9 I wake up with nerve pain in my left foot slightly right foot and slightly in left fingers. I then learn that FLagyl can cause neuropathy and if it does to stop it immediately. So I finish doxy and now have to deal with nerve fire in my feet but also by the time I finish the antibiotics cramps start two days early from period prediction SAME as last month CRAMPS non stop and over 10 days brown sludge. I get an appointment to get retested very everything and get another pap. All of it comes back negative. My belly looks like a basketball. She feels my right side during the checkup and I freak out. So she orders an ultrasound. Sure enough now I have a cyst they see on ultrasound and still have yellowish discharge. chlamydia Has ruined my life, I’m 35 recent divorce and my hope to ever have a family is starting to be a distant thought. Six months down and coming up on my 36th birthday and at this point I don’t see any hope, I can’t date I feel horrible, but my clock is ticking if it hasn’t already expired. Anyone else get cysts from
chlamydia-PID-Cyst. I also haven’t had sex and don’t ever really want to again I’m so freaked out.
