Pregabalin & Gabapentin Not Working.

Posted by myfeetareonfire @myfeetareonfire, Mar 15, 2023

Okay I've had neuropathy for over 3 years now and neither of these medications are working. I see a doctor in a few weeks to see about a stimulator? I heard they only work half the time. Is this true or a myth? Cause it would be a huge headache with no resolution. Thanks for your time and assistance.

In addition to my neurologist I have a pain medicine specialist who has helped me greatly.
Gabapentin was not working for me nor was Pregabalin alone. I am now on Pregabalin ER and amatripyline. Some nights I need more help and I take additional Pregabalin and amatriptyline.

I have used many different topicals, most have done nothing some work at times and not others. I can elaborate if you or anyone wants more specifics. Accupuncture is also helpful.

@gerriw76 I have idipathic neuropathy. I am 79 and was diagnosed over a year ago. I am still very active. The first medication the doctor prescribed for me was Baclofen. I was told its for spinal cord injuries and MS. This knocked down the horrible burning in my legs right away. Then as my symptoms progressed I was also given the regular Lyrica and Cymbalta which I did not take. I moved to the protocol I found on this site and many have used. Acetyll-Carnitine with Alpha-Lipoic Acid (Source Naturals), Liquid B12 5,000 with methylcobamin ( Pure Encapulations). I also added Nerve Ease (online only). I did research on this suppliment because I was so worried about comapnies taking advantage of us. I also start the morning with L-Glutamine powder (Swanson). Everything but the Nerve Ease I gleened from this site. Right now I am doing so much better. The night burning still happens, but its more of a background than forground. Hope this helps. Good luck!

That sounds promising. I am going to have to try what you are doing. I am on Baclofen, only 10mg, so I take 2 at night, trying to get him to up that. I am also taking Lyrica 200mg X3. I was on Cymbolta, but I stopped it days after starting it. Horrible, just horrible. I'm in my 60's and in good shape health wise, but I needed back surgery that resulted in my leg that I can't feel anymore because of the surgery and a foot that is in constant pain 24/7. The meds don't really stop the random neuropathy jolts that I get. I am looking at natural supplements as well. Nerve Block didn't do anything either. Thanks for listing all of that.

@insanepain I also take 10 of the Baclofen, but in the morning. It kept me awake at night. Hope you can find relief. Accupuncture helped me intitally too. My knees were literally hot and bruning bad and the treatments really helped. I go back now and again for a "tune up".

@evank what level of Pregabalin are you on?

I’m worried about the SCS systems for two reasons- first these a lot of current litigation alleging malfunctions. And second to my mind it reasons in the actual root cause being ignored.

@blowerk1216 It helps a little, takes the edge off a bit, but there are times when it acts up and it feels like it's not doing anything at all. I guess something is better than nothing, but the constipation side effect is crazy, and I eat a TON of fiber.
