Post menopause symptoms

Posted by january302017 @january302017, May 1, 2025

I am post menopausal. I am 62 and feel like I'm going crazy...I get worked up and anxious very easily. I have absolutely no patience anymore. I can't seem to remember the simplest things. I cannot seem to make up my mind about anything. I am absolutely miserable. Spoke with my therapist and she mentioned post menopause. Anyone else dealing with this?

Yes Insotiol is a supplement. It used to be a vitamin B8. I buy it on amazon in powder form.
No taste or smell. I put it in water.

Yes, but I also have a mental illness that exacerbates my post-menopausal mood. Take time for yourself. Sit in the sun. Take a walk. Start a new hobby or pick up one you set aside years ago.
You might also ask your doctor about mental health care or taking a look at any medications you’re taking.
Hope this helps.
I’m 63 and have been post-menopausal for about 7-8 years now. Still get hot flashes and the occasional night sweats.

@january302017
I recently went through menopause and turning 56 in the summer. I can so relate with your symptoms.

I also have depression and taking medication to help me get out from under a rock somewhat. I also take magnesium and inositol like @missbeverly which helps calm the nervous system and reduce inflammation.

For dry skin I take collagen protein. Exercise, walking outdoors in the sunshine, rest, sleep, healthy diet with lean protein, fruits/veggies, meditation, counseling/talk therapy, reading, enjoyable music, having pets, etc. can help you.

There are some herbal teas that some drink that help with menopause symptoms. Add a little honey and sip/enjoy.

Reach out for help and don’t suffer alone. There are too many women suffering through menopause because not enough research or therapies are made easily available to treat the life changing symptoms caused by perimenopause and menopause. Women deserve better and so much more.

I had similar feelings with menopause. I believe some of my symptoms were because of the decreasing hormones (I did not do HRT). However, I was also diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism six years after entering menopause. Routine blood tests don't seem to check that hormone, and I think problems are more likely to show up after menopause. My mental health symptoms have improved a lot since treatment with vitamin D, even though my parathyroid hormone is still a little high. I would ask to have that checked just to make sure you don't have abnormal levels causing symptoms, in addition to the burden of changing hormone levels.

Thank you. I couldn’t take HRT because all treatments, even herbal, are absorbed thru the liver and I take a medication that’s absorbed thru my liver. (Now I have to take a statin before that same medication caused my cholesterol to go thru the roof.)
We have to pick and choose much illnesses, situations, conditions we can can take meds for and which we can handle best without. I had to do my own research before my own doctor didn’t realize that all HRT and menopause treatments were contraindicated with my medication. Be your own ally. Do the research and share what you’ve found with your doctor.

So true we have to be our own ally and do our own research. I've been reading, though, that transdermal hrt is not absorbed through the liver. I have no doubt you've done more in depth research on this. Thank you and I wish you well!

In reply to the OP, I suggest trying to find a gyn who is a menopause specialist who understands these types of symptoms are not uncommon in menopause and understands hormonal treatments. I've been listening to the "you are not broken" podcast, after a suggestion from someone in this group, which discusses the effects of fluctuating hormones on the body, including the brain. Also, make sure you are screened for hyperparathyroidism, which can cause mental health symptoms. Menopause is a risk factor for this. I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism six years after menopause and treatment helped my symptoms. Regular blood tests screen for thyroid hormone, but not necessarily parathyroid hormone (PTH).

Never had anyone suggest transdermal. It’s probably a moot point now but thank you for this.
